Fall Hair Trends with Agave Lead Stylist Joel Calfee

Low ponies and hair buns were the biggest hair trends on the catwalk during fall 2013 fashion week. Agave lead stylist Joel Calfee gives tips on how to get each of these looks at home in less than 5 steps. What’s the key secret to all of these styles? Agave Healing Oil ($40), a non-greasy, lightweight formula that smoothes, hydrates, restores and transforms naturally frizzy hair. Follow these simple tips to get the look at home with Agave!

Low Pony

Whether they’re tame or wild, every girl loves a great pony. Simple and sleek or loose and lived in, this fall, ponies are everywhere. They're a versatile and easy style accessory for all hair types.

Messy Pony

1. Start by washing hair with Agave Shampoo ($25) and Conditioner ($25). Towel dry and apply Agave Healing Oil to damp hair from mid-length to ends, using hands to work residual product upwards just off the roots.

2. Blow-dry hair with the Bio Ionic Style Dryer, using your hands to create a loose natural texture or a wide-tooth comb for hair that’s slightly unruly to give it more control.

3. Once dry, add a small amount more of Agave Healing Oil to create shine and softness.

4. Finally, Gather hair back at hairline and secure in pony.

Tip: For added looseness, tip your head forward slightly to where you just see your toes and gather hair back at hairline and secure while the head is still forward.

Sleek Pony

1. Start by washing hair with Agave Shampoo and Conditioner. Towel dry and apply Agave Healing Oil to damp hair from mid-length to ends, using hands to work residual product upwards just off the roots.

2. Set a deep side part and begin to blow-dry hair downwards with the Bio Ionic Style Dryer until about 80 percent is dry.

3. Finish drying using the Agave Natural Bamboo Paddle Brush from the scalp to ends. You can also use a round brush for hair that’s slightly unruly to give it more control.

4. While tipping head slightly upward, gather hair at the hairline and secure in pony.

5. Bring head forward. Using a finishing spray, smooth down flyaways. Add a small amount of Agave Healing Oil to hands and apply to ponytail and head for added shine and smoothness.

Hair Buns

Gimme Clips Giveaway

As a crafter, Michelle Durham loved that her father's company made and sold paper crafting supplies. She often tried to find ways of including her daughters in her crafts. Soon she started using her father's supplies to make hair clips for her daughters. She even designed packaging art to sell them. After seeing what she came up with, Michelle's father decided to start selling Gimme Clips as part of the Durham Brands line of consumer products. Since then, Gimme Clips has become a national brand available at over 20,000 stores across the United States.

Eden Organic Care Avocado Oil Review

Some people believe that drinking plenty of water, avoiding cigarettes and alcohol, eating healthy, and exercising daily are the only surefire ways to have a clean bill of health. It tremendously helps, but it doesn't stop there. Many people continue to use chemical laden products, such as deodorants, creams, lotions, make-up, cleansers, and hair products. Since our skin is the largest organ, it absorbs these chemicals into our bloodstream. In fact, the average woman's body can absorb 5lb of make-up chemicals a year, as reported in this article here. This can result in irritation, premature aging, neurological diseases, and even cancer. So it's important to take care of our skin and one of the best ways to take care of it is to carefully choose products that are non-toxic.

Although many companies tout their brand or some of their products as "natural" and "organic" to pacify consumers that are becoming more and more aware of the effects of products that aren't touted as such, there are actual brands that are truly organic and natural. Meet Eden Organic Care. They have been certified 100% organic by the Soil Association under the COSMOS guidelines, the strictest certification for a company to receive in the United Kingdom. Also, they are one of the first beauty companies in the UK to obtain such certification.

Since launching in June, they have had considerable success and now supply their products through retailers in France and Poland and in the UK through their website and several local shops. In addition, they have had their avocado oil featured in a magazine called the Wealden Times and been featured in the August edition of Urban Coco (a magazine which is sold into 22 countries around the world and available in stores such as Harrods and Selfridges).

Their 100% organic cold pressed avocado oil doesn't contain preservatives, fertilizers, chemicals, artificial coloring, or additives. It also is not genetically modified. Furthermore, it has a wealth of proteins, fatty acids, vitamins A, B1, B2, D, and E; lecithin, and beta-carotene. These ingredients work together to nourish, moisturize, and repair the skin, while neutralizing free radicals with potent antioxidants.

Although it is tempting, I avoid using it on my face to keep the breakouts at bay. Since it's great for damaged or dry hair (I fall into the latter), I liberally apply it on my ends to nourish and strengthen them. I avoid applying it anywhere near my hairline since that is where I break out the easiest. Between the T3 Source Hand-Held Shower Filter and this product, my hair hasn't looked this good in awhile! I also love to apply it on after stepping out of the shower to make my skin feel well pampered and moisturized. Overall, it's one the best multi-tasking beauty products I've used so far!

Not Sweating the Small Stuff with zero. Natural Deodorant

There is nothing more natural than sweating. Sweating helps our bodies regulate temperature and shoo out the toxins that are lurking within our bodies. Our sweat is a mixture of trace elements, water, salt, and it's often odorless. It becomes an issue when bacteria multiplies and decomposes in these secretions, thus causing body odor. Most deodorants on the market will help keep you dry and prevent odor, yet many of them contain aluminum zirconium, aluminum chloride, or aluminum chlorhydrate.

Strong evidence proves that these ingredients cause neurotoxicity and possibly cancer. These ingredients can also cause itching, redness, and skin irritation. Since sweat is a way of eliminating toxins from our bodies, our bodies are unable to do this when these ingredients are in present. Therefore, it backs up into the body, causing toxic overload. This is why I haven't looked back ever since forgoing unnatural deodorants a few years ago.

3Q Cosmetics zero. Natural Deodorant ($5 - $10) doesn't contain the icky, bad stuff - parabens, propylene glycol, or aluminum. Instead, it provides long-lasting protection throughout the day with Coconut Oil, Kaolin Clay, Baking Soda, Beeswax, Vitamin E, Lecithin, Zinc Oxide, Calendula Oil, Lavender, Tea Tree, and Frankincense Essential Oil.
