Skincare for Intimate Grooming with Project Fig

Bikini season is only a few months away, and if you're like the majority of women, you might be hesitant about slipping on a bikini and hitting the boardwalk. The sensitive (and painful) thought of bikini waxing comes into mind for some, because we all want to look and feel our best when lounging at the beach or poolside. There is another option where you don't have to resort to applying on sketchy chemicals that make hair pull a "disappearing" act or baring it to a complete stranger at a salon, especially when it comes to hair removal down there.

I know that I mostly cover topics regarding hair care, skin care, and make-up, but it has been ages since I've talked about a product for... the nether regions...your lady bits or down there. Whatever you refer it, it's a sensitive topic for most women, including myself, but it is important like any other part of the skin. Even someone influential and well-respected as Oprah can shamelessly refer the female anatomy as a va-jay-jay. So, surely we can set our pride aside, and address this topic candidly and maturely.

Intimate grooming with Project Fig is easy, painless, and without irritation. The shaving gel is formulated with amino-acid based Sodium N-Cocoyl-L-Glutamate, one of the safest and gentlest cleansing agents available, and gives me the closest shave. Since I have very sensitive skin, I quickly follow up with the soothing serum to help soothe my skin. The soothing serum also prevents ingrown hair and relieves itchiness during regrowth. Formulated with Capislow and IBR-Dormin, the hair inhibitor delays hair growth and promotes softer, finer hair. I haven't noticed much of a difference. Maybe those who order the full size product have a better experience. I don't know, so don't take my word for it. Lastly, the exfoliant gently buffs away dead skin cells, as it prevents ingrown hairs.

The Shave Love Kit ($99) contains full size products of everything you need for the best shaving experience. The Wax Love Kit ($79) contains three full size products and one small shave for touch-ups. The Weekender Kit ($49) convenient sizes of everything, making it perfect for gifting or traveling!

Tarte Cosmetics skinny smolderEYES™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner Review

Tarte Cosmetics is the leader in high-performance naturals™ proving that glamour can be good for you by offering the largest selection of cruelty-free beauty products infused with pure, healthy ingredients including fruit and plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, essential oils and other naturally-derived ingredients.

I normally prefer using liquid eyeliner (opposed to eyeliner gel or pencil) since it doesn't smudge as easily. I also usually don't shy away from the classic colors when it comes to eyeliner (i.e. black, brown, or navy), but I recently had the opportunity to try out Tarte Cosmetics skinny smolderEYES™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner ($19) in Emerald. This color is beautiful and breathtaking, and I love how the pencil glides on effortlessly and smoothly. It is also surprisingly long-lasting, but they're not kidding about it being waterproof since it can be a trying experience to remove it by the end of the day. I suggest using an oil-based cleanser for removal if this is the case for you, too. Also, the pencil is very soft, but I read in the comments on Tarte that you can leave it in the fridge for 15 minutes, which makes it very firm before sharpening.

Naomie Harris' Oscar Hair Look

Naomie and Ben chose a classic Hollywood style to compliment her rich, golden dress designed by Savannah College of Art and Design student, Michael Badger. The Skyfall actress truly exuded elegance as she walked down the red carpet.

1. Starting with wet hair, spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Color Protect Spray for a smooth, soft base.

2. Create a low side part on either side of the hair and then blow the hair out.

3. Once dry, use a 1-inch curling iron to curl 2 -inch sections.

4. After all of the hair is curled, brush out into soft waves using a boar bristle brush.

5. Apply a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Color Protect Gloss Crème over the top of the waves.

6. To finish the look, lightly mist Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to hold waves in place.

Charlize Theron Oscar Hair

Enzo explains, “My inspiration came mainly from her short hair, which she cut three months ago for a movie” and is now just grown out to length that can be styled into a sophisticated, yet androgynous look that complements the sleek lines of the Dior haute couture gown. “I wanted Charlize’s hair to look like she got out of jeans and a t-shirt and put on a gown because the style is so simple and chic.”

1. After washing and conditioning, Enzo applied Wella Professionals Natural Volume Styling Mousse to wet hair to direct hair into place.

2. Then blow-dry hair with a diffuser until it’s 100% dry and in place. 3. Rake hair down with a brush following the part and shape of the head, leaving volume at the top of the head.

4. Enzo used Wella Professionals Shape Shift Molding Gum to mold the hair and create a texturized look and feel.

5. Finally, he finished with a light mist of Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray to give hair luminosity on the red carpet.

2. Blow the hair 80% dry with low heat and speed to not disturb her waves.

3. Add Wella Professionals Bold Move Matte Styling Paste gently on the dry hair, using the comb to spread the product evenly.

5. Once, the finger waves are done, apply Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to hold it in place.

6. Finally spritz the Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray to keep hair looking wet and shiny.

Isla Fisher Oscar Hair

Marcus Francis explained “I wanted Isla's personality to really show by keeping her hair sleek and down, it made the look feel young, sexy, and fun, just like her. Having a no part half-up, half-down would help to modernize the hairstyle.” A strapless dress doesn't always mean the hair must be worn up. In this case Isla showed off her red, shiny locks which really popped against her blue dress by wearing it down.

1. From wet hair, apply Wella Professional Flowing Form Smoothing Balm section by section and blow dry with a medium size round brush.

2. Create your part for the section you're pulling back by starting at the arch of each eyebrow, and continue back to the crown.

3. Spray Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray before you flat iron each section from roots to ends.

4. Secure the section pulled back by using a bobby pin on each side at the crown. Slide the pin underneath the top layer of the hair to anchor without slipping.

5. Use a quarter size amount of Wella Professionals Mirror Polish Shine Serum and take through with your fingers to seal the ends and adding shine.

6. Finally use Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray with focus at the front and section pulled back for added hold.

1. Start out by spraying Wella Professionals Create Character Texturizing Spray on wet hair to give it texture and body with hold.

2. Use a ceramic brush for a smooth blowout, then put the hair in Velcro rollers to set for 10-15 minutes.

4. Create lasting hold by finishing the look with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray.

Peter Som AW'13 - Hair by Wella Professionals

The Collection: Peter Som Fall 2013 is all about the crazy-quilt eclectic mash-up of early eighties NYC downtowners photographed by Amy Arbus, mixed with the romance of Paris. Taking inspiration from two of his favorite cities, Peter weaves a patchwork of patterns, textures and colors in each piece of clothing. This represents the hard-edged vintage boldness of downtown NYC with the love affair that is Paris.

The Look:

For Peter Som’s Fall 2013 collection, the beauty inspiration is very strong, yet minimal. The woman who embodies this spirit and wears these clothes makes a sophisticated, bold statement and pays attention to the image she portrays. Wella Professionals lead stylist and owner of The Doves salon, Christopher Dove collaborated with Peter Som to create a hair look that is in balance with the collection featuring high necklines, volume, and structure. The finished hair look is simple and sleek, creating a smaller head shape to complement the silhouette of the clothing.

“For Peter Som’s Fall ’13 collection, I was inspired by Wella’s Echo trend, which is all about the introverted, emotional beauty. I felt that the hair look should not distract from the beautiful and intricate detail of the clothing. It needed to be simple, sleek, and elegant because that’s the kind of woman who will wear this clothing, but also able to make a bold statement with minimalistic hair and make-up.”

- Christopher Dove, Wella Professionals Lead Stylist

Get the Look:

1. Apply Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to towel dried hair, which primes hair for a smooth finish.

2. Blow-dry hair straight until completely dry to create a healthy canvas for styling.

3. Separate hair in a straight line part either in the center or a deep side part depending on the direction of natural hair growth.

4. Section hair in the back by pulling the back half of the hair into a tight low ponytail at the nape of the neck.

5. Apply a working hairspray like Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to the surface and use a finishing brush to smooth the surface of hair so there are no bumps.

6.  Twist the ponytail around like a rope and then around the base to create a knotted bun that’s secured into place with hairpins.

7. The two pieces in the front of the head and each side needs to be twisted in the direction toward the head and then wrapped around the bun before securing in place, making sure to hide the pin keeping the two pieces in place.

8. To keep the hair really slick and free of flyaways and frizz, rub a small amount of Wella Professionals Sculpt Force Flubber Gel in fingertips and then apply to the surface, smoothing down the hair near the part and face framing pieces.

9. For a high-gloss finish, spray about 3-5 pumps of Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray all around the hair.

Get the Hair Look: Rachel Weisz at Oz Premiere

Rachel and Ben chose to do a super-sleek and shiny take on a low bun. This stunning look paired with her fitted Victoria Beckham dress created a modern, sexy look that really popped as Rachel walked down Oz’s yellow brick road.

1. Mist hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray before blowing hair out with a large round brush to ensure the hair is smooth.

2. Once dry, flat iron the roots and mid lengths of the hair for a glossy finish. Then using a rat tail comb, create a deep side part.

3. Use Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extreme Smooth Combing Crème over the surface of the hair and tightly brush the hair back into a low ponytail. Use a hair band to secure the ponytail in place at the nape of the neck.

4. Comb a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel through the ponytail to keep the hair together.

5. To create the looped circular bun, start at the bottom of the ponytail and roll the hair underneath it until it reaches the base of the ponytail. Secure the roll with bobby pins.

6. Lastly, smooth gel over the top of the hair for a super shiny look and lock the entire look in place with hairspray to smooth any flyaways.

Live a Beautiful Life with 3000BC

3000BC is the only skincare line featuring pure organic botanicals and powerful clinical-grade cosmeceuticals. That is what makes the 3000BC line so unique and effective. Clinical studies prove that their products dramatically diminish the signs of aging, dehydration, acne and sun damage.

The most commonly known vital keys to maintaining or achieving youthful skin is eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, exercising, avoiding alcohol and cigarettes. It is also important to cleanse and exfoliate the skin with a high quality cleanser, such as 3000BC's Exfoliating Scrub Cleanser ($28). Unlike many other facial cleansers, this one is suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin since it gently exfoliates the skin without causing irritation.

My acne prone skin has been mostly clear for the past year. However, it decided to do a complete 360 on me recently. It's most likely due to the fact that I'm busier than I have ever been, which causes unnecessary bouts of stress. Besides exercising on a daily basis and eating a healthier diet, I've practically tried everything under the sun to nix this problem and nothing has really worked. This product seems to be quite promising, though. The breakouts haven't miraculously pulled a disappearing act, but my skin has been looking much better since I have been using this cleanser.

This cleanser has a creamy texture, featuring tiny and gentle scrubbing granules. The key ingredients are algae extract, jojoba beads, lavender water, zinc oxide, lemon, and cypress. It's super economical since a pea sized amount will cover my face and neck. I like the squeaky clean, yet soft and touchable feeling it provides. Also, I only use it three times a week in replacement of my regular cleanser to avoid over exfoliation.

During my A.M. skincare routine, I usually follow up with the Antioxidant Strengthening Day Serum ($45) after cleansing my face. It makes make-up application effortlessly easy since this serum is lightweight and non-greasy. The high levels of Vitamin C helps stimulate cell renewal, while other ingredients, such as green tea extract, borage oil, superoxide dismutase, linden blossom help battle the signs of premature aging.

Katy Perry's Final Grammy Hair How-To

At the 55th annual Grammy Awards, Katy Perry looked stunning from head to toe, with a voluminous hairstyle created for her by Renato Campora using products from KMS® California hair care.

For Katy’s look, Renato was inspired by a 50s pin-up glam girl, with shiny, voluminous hair. To get her look, Renato first applied KMS California ADDVOLUME® styling foam to wet hair. Then, he blew it out using a large round brush to create volume. Next, Renato parted her hair down the middle and applied KMS California FREESHAPE® hot flex spray to ensure the style would last all night. Then, he used a 1 ½ inch curling iron to smooth the hair and create texture. To seal the look, Renato added a drop of KMS California SILKSHEEN® polishing serum. Renato really brought the pin-up girl to life with Katy’s gorgeous, shiny hair, spraying it with KMS California HAIRPLAY® dry touch-up for instant, weightless surface conditioning. To pull the look all together, Renato used Goldwell® Elumen® NA@2 with VV@all to achieve Katy’s rich, glossy color. A deep espresso with a violet undertone, this color leaves a super rich finish that shines like glass.

Runway Hair Report: TRESemmé for Tracy Reese

Yesterday, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu led the team backstage at the Tracy Reese Fall 2013 Fashion Show. To complement the designer’s collection Jeanie Syfu created a deep-side swept style which was teased and textured using TRESemmé products to mimic the fearless style of the clothing. I've included additional information to recreate the look below and attached images for your reference.

Tracy Reese Fall 2013 Collection: The collection combines a variety of rich textures and patterns for an assortment of sexy silhouettes with an emphasis on hourglass dresses, longer slim skirts, sweater tunics and bold, meaty jackets and coats. Black in all of its magnificence, from deep velvety darkness to textured patent refraction, anchors a palette highlighted by scarlet, cerise, teal, aubergine, tan and lychee.

Overall Look: A quintessential NY look, the hair combines side-swept texture, polished ends and height at the crown. A clash of black bobby pins arranged at the temple completed the look and complemented the black accents throughout the collection.

Inspiration: A fearless New York girl walking home before dawn after a night out

1. Lightly dampen hair and liberally apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse and Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray throughout the roots and lengths of the hair for texture and volume.

2. Flip head upside-down and rough dry with fingers (pulling at the root with fingers until the hair is 90% dry). Use a Mason Pearson brush and continue drying upside-down by lifting at the roots and smoothing the ends. TIP: Use your Mason Pearson brush to lift the roots but don't smooth the roots, as this will flatten the texture.

3. Flip hair over when dry and create a "front sweep" by lightly brushing hair from the front of the crown over to one side diagonally.

4. Secure the side-sweep in place by haphazardly pinning a clash of black bobby pins at the temple.

5. Tease the crown of the head for lift. Finish with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

6. Apply TRESemmé Fresh Start Color Care Dry Shampoo for texture and pull out pieces for a wispy/undone soft finish.

TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse: Specially formulated to work with heat appliances to boost volume without heaviness, it helps to hold and maintain styles, while preventing frizz.
TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray: Sets volume with controlled bounce for 24 hours. Never stiff, this humidity-resistant spray leaves hair manageable and shiny.
TRESemmé Fresh Start Color Care Dry Shampoo: A new formulation perfect for all hair types, which prevents dull and limp locks. The formula helps eliminate odor and extend the life of your color, leaving hair refreshed, smooth and silky.
TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray: Guards against heat and friction to keep hair shiny and soft, it instantly transforms all hair textures by enhancing strands’ flexibility to reform and hold shape.

Vivienne Tam Hair Look Styled by TRESemmé

TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu brings you the hair look from Vivienne Tam's Fall 2013 show! Vivienne Tam's collection was inspired by the punk and New Wave movements of the 80’s. To compliment the designer’s Fall 2013 collection, TRESemmé stylist Jeanie Syfu created an updo that was reminiscent of the era, yet still completely modern, feminine and chic.

Overall Look: Chic, faux fringe updo

1) Start by applying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse liberally throughout roots and blow dry with a Mason Pearson brush, gently pulling the hair back for a flat, clean hairline.

2) Once all hair is dry, spray TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray around hairline. Using a brush, pull hair into a ponytail and secure with an elastic just below the crown.

3) Apply TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Serum throughout ponytail and begin twisting, pulling the twist up towards the hairline and securing with pins as you go. Finally, fasten twist with an elastic, making sure to leave the ends out.

4) Flat iron ends to create a choppy effect and finish with TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème.

Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2013 Hair by TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu

The overall look is straight and sleek with polished ends

Hair Inspiration: Inspired by Neil Armstrong’s trip to space, Rebecca Minkoff’s collection featured strong silhouettes, offset with soft fluid fabrics in cosmic prints.

To compliment Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall 2013 Collection, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created a simple, yet bold style.

1. Start by applying TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse throughout the roots and mid–lengths and TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray to the ends.

2. Blow dry with a round brush, lifting at the roots and smoothing through the ends.

3. Starting at the nape of the neck, liberally spray 1-2” sections of hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray before straightening with a flat iron. Continue flat ironing hair in sections, working up the head to the temples.

4. Create a middle part with a tail comb and take a thin, vertical section of hair, parallel to each side of your part, and lightly tease the hair for volume.

5. Gently brush through the ends and finish with TRESemmé Smooth & Silky No Frizz Shine Spray.
