Grace Kelly Inspired Updo for Jane Krakowski by Creighton Bowman

Jane Krakowski, co-star of NBC’s hit series, 30 Rock, looked absolutely ravishing in an orange sherbet sequined KAUFMANFRANCO gown at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. To play up the glamour of her gorgeous gown and glittering David Webb jewels, celebrity stylist Creighton Bowman of Exclusive Artists Management created a romantic textured chignon with alluring side-swept bangs. “We were going for a young, modern twist on a classic Grace Kelly style,” says Creighton. “The look gives a 2013 edge to the retro vibe of her gown.”

Herewith, the scoop on how Creighton brought classic romance up to the minute for Jane:

« First, I washed Jane’s hair with René Furterer OKARA Light Activating Shampoo followed with René Furterer OKARA Light Activating Conditioner. The anti-fading formula created especially for highlighted and lightened hair helped protect Jane’s beautiful blonde hair color, and kept it looking vibrant.

« To prep Jane’s hair for styling, I applied René Furterer VEGETAL STYLING Straightening Gel from roots to ends on towel-dried hair to smooth it and protect it again heat. Next, I applied René Furterer VEGETAL STYLING Vegetal Mousse to the roots for volume and structure.

« Using a medium round brush, I gave Jane’s hair a basic round brush blow-out with a messy deep side part.

« To give her hair texture, I first put in random curls with a ½ inch curling iron. Then I broke up the curl pattern with a flat iron and sprayed her hair with René Furterer NATURIA Dry Shampoo to give it an undone texture.

« Next, I pulled Jane’s hair into a low loose ponytail. The ponytail was wrapped into a loose chignon with a few stray pieces before it was secured into place with hairpins.

« I finished with a few spritz of René Furterer VEGETAL STYLING Vegetal Finishing Spray to hold everything in place and give it great shine. The romantic texture gave Jane a sexy, young, and modern look for the 2013 SAG Awards!

Each stylist has been hand-selected for this program and has a ton of experience dealing with a variety of hair types. You can ask the stylist questions such as:

"What’s the best hair length or style for my face shape?"

"Which TRESemmé products are best for my hair type?"

"I have an upcoming event, can you recommend an updo for me?"

I'm usually not one to make ultimate plans for the New Year, but my mind is set differently for this year. I'm ready for some ch-ch-changes! Even though I took the plunge at getting highlights a couple of times over the last few years, my hairstyle hasn't really changed that much. I'm not thinking of a short hairstyle anytime soon, even though that is one of the biggest hair trends, but I want something that is sassy and flirty without being over the top.

Disclosure: I received compensation from LUNCHBOX on the behalf of TRESemme for this post, but these opinions are exclusively my own.

Nicole Richie Rocks the 'Cut of the Year'

As you know, “the Chop” has quickly become the cut of the year. The swingy, low-maintenance style is one-length, with a slight layer in the front, and has been turning lots of heads – including that of Suave Professionals® spokeswoman Nicole Richie. The ‘do was most recently spotted on Nicole, who took to the salon chair yesterday to get “chopped.”

Here are Suave Professionals® Stylist Jenny Cho’s tips for creating the unstructured look that is full of shine:

· For hair that needs an extra boost of shine, use the Suave Professionals® Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil as a shine treatment on dry hair before you shampoo. Divide hair into three sections and apply 2-3 pumps of the Styling Oil to each section. Leave in for 5-7 minutes and shampoo as usual.

· If your hair has some natural wave and texture, blow dry hair so that it’s only halfway dry, using fingers for a more natural look. If you need some help with the wave, blow dry hair completely and wrap 1-2 inch sections of hair around a curling iron (alternating each section away from the face and towards the face), leaving ends out for a “messier” texture. Front sections of hair should be curled away from the face. Tousle curls after they have cooled.

· Part hair to the side, so that it hangs just slightly in front of face, and finish by adding 1-2 pumps of the Suave Professionals® Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil over the surface of dry hair for radiant shine.

Fekkai Recreates Michelle Obama's New Bangs

First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off the new year with a bang (literally!) She updated her signature layered bob with a face-framing fringe that just like her fashion sense, is setting a new bar for White House-chic. Fekkai stylist Lindsay Block gave us her insider tips on how she recreated FLOTUS’s look on their very own Fekkai model:

1. Start by washing hair with a protein-infused shampoo and conditioner. Lindsay used PrX Reparatives Shampoo and Conditioner to nourish strands and ensure sleek, soft hair.

2. Lindsay recommends having a stylist cut bangs that will frame and compliment your face. Complete the the cut by trimming split ends and requesting long layers to add volume and body.

3. Blow dry hair straight using a large round brush and go over strands with a flatiron once hair is completely dry for a sleek look.

4. Using your hands, apply Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Crème to keep bangs looking shiny without weighing them down.

5. Lightly spray the entire head with Fekkai COIFF Sheer Hold Hairspray for a flexible hold on your new look!

Alicia Keys at 2013 Sundance Film Festival

Celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose used Votre Vu products to create the look for Alicia Keys’ surprise appearance at the 2013 Sundance premiere for ‘The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete’.

For the look of Alicia’s surprise appearance at the premiere of ‘The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete,’ we wanted to go for a very simple, fresh and modern look.

I first applied the Votre Vu Love Me Deux in St. Tropez. Then I lightly dusted the peachy pink blush from the Beaute en Bronze blush/bronzer duo. This gave her a very natural, glowing flush because the blush has gorgeous light shimmer in it.

For her eyes, I lined her waterline with the Le Joli Crayon in Charbon as well as her inner rim and smudged it out a bit to give definition to her eyes while still keeping it soft and simple. Then I applied the Eiffel Power mascara to her upper and lower lashes.

Lastly, for her lips, I applied the Vu-On Rouge in Bouquet Rose with my fingers for a very sheer color and then applied a bit of balm over it to keep her lips hydrated and glossy for the evening.”

Get the Look: Ultra-Sleek, Sexy Hair

Ultra-sleek, stick-straight hair parted right down the middle is making a huge comeback. Celebrities including Ashley Greene, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Garner have been spotted wearing this must-have look of the moment.

This look is so easy, yet sexy, that it can take you from a day at the office to a Saturday night out with the girls.

To get the look, first apply KMS California Silk Sheen Styling Creme to towel-dried hair to give it shape with lightweight control. This amazing Styling Crème provides all-day frizz control, which is a must for this look.

Then, divide your hair into four or five sections. Blow-dry each section with a large round brush and Amika’s Power Cloud Repair + Smoother Dryer, keeping the nozzle a few inches from the brush at all times and directing it down to the floor to keep the cuticle flat and smooth. This lightweight NRG dryer uses tourmaline-infused ceramic components to emit maximum negative ionic and far infrared energy, which eliminate frizz, static and drying time while infusing moisture into the hair shaft. Repeat with the other sections until hair is completely dry.

To complete the look and get that pin-straight style, use a flat iron, such as Amika’s Digital Pro Styling System. The heat from the iron will lock the sleekness in place. Create a center part and lightly apply a frizz-fighting formula, such as KMS California Silk Sheen Polishing Serum, over your hair for a long-lasting smooth finish.

Ciate’s Mother of Pearl Caviar Manicure

Valentine's Day Tips from Mally Beauty

Whether you’re a single lady, in a committed relationship or just celebrated an anniversary, let’s face it – we all want to look our best this Valentine’s Day. So, if you’re spending it with your closest girlfriends or with your soul mate, here are three looks to choose from:

Pretty Pink Lips: A pink pout looks good on every skin tone and every age. If you want to choose a light pink, try the Mally Beauty Lip Defender Volumizing Lip Gloss in Pink ($29) that creates plumpness to your lips. If you want a more intense pink, try the Mally Beauty Lip Magnifier in Fierce, a bright fuchsia. No matter which pink you choose, start by exfoliating your lips with the Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Lip System ($35) that conditions the lips so they look and feel soft and smooth throughout the day.

Smokey Emerald Eyes: A smokey eye doesn’t have to be just gray or black – play with color! The hottest color this year – Emerald – is just the trick. Use the Mally Beauty City Chick Smokey Eye Kit in Central Park ($40), follow the easy-to-use palette that includes all of the steps to creating an intense smokey eye.

Black Liquid Liner and Red Lips: A sultry eye and lip are the perfois combination for a night out with the girls. Start by applying the Mally Beauty Professional Ink Liner ($23.64) and creating a slight wing tip at the corners of your eyes. To find the right rouge lip to match, try Mally Beauty’s Red Lip Kit ($35) that comes in three shades: Cool Red, Neutral Red and Warm Red.

Golden Goddess: Create that glow, by using a bronzer that is 1-2 shades darker than your natural skin tone. Apply it to the following areas: concentrate on the perimeter of your face and start behind the ear, working down along the jawline. Then, go across the top of the forehead (along the hairline). Lightly sweep across the forehead, bridge of the nose, cheeks, and tip of the chin. To prevent your face from looking "muddy" or "dirty", make sure that you also apply a great pink blush on the apples of the cheeks, and a sweep of highlighter on the tops of the cheekbones. Try Mally Beauty Believable Bronzer ($40). Next, apply a shimmery champagne eyeshadow all-over eyelids. Try Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Stick in Saddle Shimmer ($25) and finish off with a nude lipgloss. Try Mally Beauty Super Natural ($20).

Golden Globes Hair: Isla Fisher

Actress Isla Fisher styled by celebrity stylist Sascha Breuer using Wella Professionals

The Look: Isla’s gorgeous, glamourously detailed Reem Acra dress helped for a modern take of Veronica Lake’s iconic style, which was the influence for her soft, touchable iconic waves.

Here’s how Sascha created Isla’s look:

1. First, hair was washed and conditioned with Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner.

2. Hair was gently towel dried, and then Wella Professionals Elastic Energy Mousse was combed through the hair using a wide toothed comb to give the look staying power and irresistible definition.

3. Blow-dry the hair using a large round brush and direct the nozzle upwards for added root-lift. Ensure the hairdryer isn’t too hot, which can cause it to dry out and break, giving you frizz.

4. Once the hair is completely dry, create a low side parting for added glam and section the hair into manageable pieces.

5. Starting at the front and working backwards, wrap sections of hair around a medium-sized heated curling iron and secure each curled section with pins or clips.

6. Spray the pinned hair lightly with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray and leave to cool.

7. When the hair is completely cool, release the curled sections, remove all the grips and smooth through with your hands to loosen the ringlets. Use a large soft brush gently brush through the curls to create smooth soft waves.

8. Add a few drops of Wella Professionals Mirror Polish Shine Serum, which will work wonders to add the right level of smoothness and glossy shine to your hair.

9. To finish, spritz Wella Stay Essential Finishing Spray for lasting but flexible hold.

Golden Globes Hair: Lucy Liu

Actress and Presenter Lucy Liu styled by Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte

The Look: Lucy demonstrated “perfect imperfection” because there is a slight messiness to balance her feminine Marie Antoinette inspired dress. Andy says that for braids, it's best to do it on 1-2 day old hair because it's easier to grip and create texture vs. clean hair.

Here’s how Andy created Lucy’s look:

1. First, dry hair was prepped with small amount of Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier Style Primer.

2. Then, Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Hairspray was applied to create texture at the root and length of hair.

3. A deep side part was created, and the hair was french braided down each side of the head and the two braids merged at the bottom, slightly to the side so the braid hangs over the shoulder.

4. Placing one braid over the other, the ends of the hair were then flipped through the hole of the two braids.

5. Then, merge the two braids into one fishtail at the bottom, and use Wella Professionals Rugged Fix on the ends for a rugged texture.

6. Finish the look with Wella Professionals Stay Essential for a lasting, flexible hold.

Golden Globes Hair: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Cervando and Rosie went for a modern, chic hairstyle, inspired by the fashion runways of Paris. Rosie’s hair gives an effortless elegance to her Saint Laurent Paris gown.

Here’s how Cervando created Rosie’s look:

1. First start by prepping wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Repair & Finish Spray to protect hair while blow-drying it.

2. Rough blow dry hair until it’s 75% dry. Starting at the nape of the neck, blow dry hair in small sections using a medium sized boar bristle round brush. 3. Starting at the part, twist hair along the hairline until the temple, and then create a small roll. Place a small metal hairpin in the roll to build height. Spray the area with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray and let it set for 20 minutes, allowing the hair to take form around the pin. Remove pin and spritz with hairspray for control.

4. Apply a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extreme Smooth Combing Crème to smooth hair and tame flyaways.

5. To finish, sweep hair over one shoulder and spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray to hold in place while leaving it with lots of natural movement.

Golden Globes Hair: Megan Hilty

Celebrity makeup artist Coleen Campbell-Olwell created Megan Hilty’s look for the 2013 Golden Globes.

“For Megan’s look, we wanted to keep her face soft and simple and make her eyes the focus since she is wearing a gorgeous bold red dress.

I started off with freshly cleansed skin, then used the Votre Vu Attentive Serum Delicat Pour Le Visage to give her skin some extra hydration and then followed with the Votre Vu Attentive Crème Du Jour.

To create her fresh, simple look I applied the Votre Vu Love Me Deux Moisture Tint and Concealer in Champagne. For her cheeks, I applied the Votre Vu Vu-On Rouge in Ma Cherry and then lightly dusted the peachy/pink blush from Votre Vu’s Beaute en Bronze on top to give her a soft glow. I the applied the bronzer from Beaute en Bronze around her face to warm up her skin a little and give a bit of definition. Lastly, I used the Votre Vu Belle Poudre in Medium to set her entire look and keep her shine free for the rest of the evening.

For her eyes, we really wanted them to pop and be the focus so I began by lining the top of her eyes with Votre Vu’s Le Joli Crayon in Aubergine and smoked it out a bit. Then I went back with the Le Joli Crayon in Charbon and defined the ends a bit more for depth. For eyeshadow, since we were going for a smokey but soft look, I used a trio of smokey brown shadows from Dior to add dimension. Then I applied Votre Vu’s Eiffel Power mascara to lengthen and thicken her lashes. The Eiffel Power has great staying power and is just an amazing mascara in general which is perfect for the Globes tonight!

For Megan’s brows, we wanted to go with a more defined arch, so I applied Votre Vu’s Arch de Triumphe in Fair which made her brows just a bit bolder without going too over the top.

Last but not least, for Megan’s lips we wanted something that tied into the color of her cheeks, so I applied the Votre Vu Vu-On Rouge in Bouquet Rose as a base and then layered it with a soft gloss to enhance her full lips. The Vu-On Rouge in Bouquet Rose is such a beautiful color and worked beautifully on her lips!”

Golden Globes Hair: Connie Britton

Celebrity hairstylist Rod Ortega created Connie Britton’s classic 1940’s old Hollywood look for the 2013 Golden Globes.

“For Connie’s Golden Globes look tonight the inspiration was Rita Hayworth in ‘Gilda’.” To start off, celebrity hairstylist, Rod Ortega, dampened Connie’s hair and prepped it with Leonor Greyl’s Serum de Soie Sublimateur on the ends, and then on the roots he applied Leonor Greyl’s Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice. He used both of these products together to guarantee healthy, high shine, and movable hair through the evening.

Rod then began blow drying the hair with a round boar brush, smoothing out the hair and finished drying it. Before using a heat styling tool, he recommends using Leonor Greyl’s Spray Structure Naturelle. “This setting spray is very important because it’s going to give the hold for the style.” Using a 1-inch curling iron and setting the hair with the setting spray, he let Connie’s hair cool and brushed the waves out with a large paddle brush into beautiful, shiny waves. He then secured the waves with Leonor Greyl’s Lacque Souple, a couple of pumps of the Leonor Greyl’s Spray Structure Naturelle… “and voila, you have a finished red carpet look!”

Golden Globes Hair: Rachel Weisz

Ben and Rachel channeled the 1930s with sexy, sleek waves that complement her Louis Vuitton dress.

Here’s how Ben suggests getting the look:

1.Starting with damp hair, apply Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray and blow-dry hair straight.

2.Once hair is dry, tuck hair behind left ear. On that same side, take small sections and curl hair down a 1-inch barrel curling iron. After 20 seconds, remove the iron and pin the section in a roll while it cools. Repeat this process until the whole head is curled.

3.Then, on the untucked side, repeat the same process but with a ½-inch curling iron to give a stronger wave around the face. Once all the hair cools, remove the pinned sections and brush hair into a soft, sexy wave.

4.To keep hair tucked behind the ear, apply a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel.

5. Lastly, lightly mist with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray to hold the style in place, leaving it with a sleek, finished look.

Golden Globes Hair: Rosario Dawson

Rosario and Kylee Heath chose to do a voluminous wave with a subtle side part to play off the modern glam of Rosario’s Antonio Berardi dress. He tucked her hair on the right side to showcase the gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz drop earring and the beautiful cut of the neckline.

Here’s how Kylee created Rosario’s look:

1. First, he started out by prepping damp hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse, specifically at the roots, for lightweight volume.

2. Then, he spritzed sections from the mid shaft through the ends with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray.

3. Kylee then took sections, starting at the nape of the neck, and blow-dried hair with a medium sized boar bristle round brush, mainly focusing on getting lift at the roots while smoothing out the ends.

4. He then curled 2-inch sized sections of hair using a 1¾-inch curling iron. After removing the iron, he lightly sprayed each curl with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray and then pinned each section in place. After curling all her hair and letting it cool, he unpinned and brushed each section out with a Mason Pearson brush.

5. To finish, he lightly teased the roots to create volume and sprayed her hair with hairspray to add sheen and to hold the look for the night.

2. The hair was then parted roughly to one side, and blown dry with a small round brush.

Golden Globes Hair: Julie Bowen

Modern Family’s Julie Bowen styled by celebrity stylist Jill Crosby using Wella Professionals

The Look: Julie likes to feel comfortable and like herself when walking the red carpet, so Jill created a textured chignon knot that embodies her natural, yet modern style. Julie is wearing a one-shouldered gown, which balances this deconstructed hairstyle.

Here’s how Jill created Julie’s look:

1. Starting with wet hair, Jill worked in a quarter-sized amount of Wella Professionals Enrich Straight Leave In Cream focusing on the ends to infuse moisture and “bring hair back to life.”

2. Then rake through three pumps of Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to prime the hair, leaving it a smooth texture, before blow drying with a large round brush. While blow drying, focus on adding volume and lifting the roots.

3. Once dry, she then sprayed Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray throughout and Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray at the roots for added lift and matte finish to achieve the deconstructed look.

4. Using a flat iron, she straightened pieces of the hair at her fringe and underneath the length of her hair near the nape of her neck. The interior of the hair was then back combed for added volume. Fringe is side-swept and secured in the front.

5. Hair was separated into two sections and then pulled toward the middle of the back of her head into a knotted chignon, then secured into place with pins hidden underneath the knot.

6. The look was finished with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray sprayed throughout to set the style.

Celebrity makeup artist Christophe Danchaud created Marion Cotillard’s look for the Golden Globes using all Tarte.

Face:

• Christophe mixed Maracuja Miracle Foundation 12-Hour Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Medium ($42) with Tarte’s BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen in Light ($34) to ensure a glowing complexion.

NIOXIN Busts the Most Common Hair Myths

Diane Cole Stevens, a NIOXIN lead stylist and owner of Washington D.C.’s illustrious Cole Stevens Salon, is the authority on healthy hair, vibrant color and gorgeous style. Here she busts the most common hair myths.

Myth or Fact #1: Hot tools are worse for hair health than pollution.

Myth: Environmental factors such as air and water pollutants are just as harmful as the improper or excessive use of hot tools. Both can both cause damage to the hair and scalp. Direct heat on the hair must be protected with the proper regimen in order to maintain nutrients, volume and moisture. Use Nioxin Clarifying Shampoo to remove build up caused by environmental residue, and an in-salon treatment called Nioxin Scalp Renew which is an exfoliating treatment that helps to regenerate and revitalize the scalp.

Myth or Fact #2: Exposure to sunlight is the healthiest way to lighten your hair color.

Myth: Exposure to sunlight is just as damaging to the hair as it is to the skin!

Myth or Fact #3: If you see a few split ends, it’s best to cut them as soon as you see them rather than to wait for a bunch of split ends to appear.

Fact: When hair becomes dry or damaged, the hair shaft splits at the end. If you wait too long for a trim, you may have to cut even more off to prevent further damage. If you are growing your tresses, get a trim every six weeks.

Myth or Fact #4: Hair grows faster when it’s trimmed more frequently.

Myth: The rate or speed of hair growth is not determined by the frequency of trims. Trimming will not make it grow faster but will keep your hair healthy so it can grow longer.

Myth or Fact #5: Thinning hair occurs in about 75% of males and females.

Fact: Thinning hair affects over 78% of both men and women of all ages due to genetics, diet, stress, medication, environmental factors, health concerns, chemicals and hot tools.

Myth or Fact #6: If you’re planning to wear an updo for a special event, your hair should be slightly dirty.

Fact: Often times, freshly shampooed hair doesn't hold curls as easily and can make the style fall flat. It's best to shampoo the hair the day before, apply a mousse (such as NIOXIN Bodifying Foam) and blow-dry.

Myth or Fact #7: Eyebrows should match your hair color.

Myth: Eyebrows are naturally two shades darker than the hair on your head which actually gives the face and eyes more structure. When women lighten their hair, they tend to lighten their brows as well, which looks great! Just remember to leave the brows a level or two darker than your new hair color.

Red Carpet, Real Hair: How to Create Ellen Pompeo's Winning Hair Look

Ellen Pompeo modeled sleek sophistication at last night’s People’s Choice Awards. Her hair was styled by Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist, Andy LeCompte. Read on for the how-to on how he created this timeless look.

Hair Look:

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte suggested sleek and sophisticated hair look to complement Ellen’s elegant, yet understated ensemble.

Here’s how Andy recommends achieving the look at-home:

1. Start with clean freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, to ensure hair is in perfect condition.

2. Roughly dry the hair using your hands. Then create a low side parting and section off the hair from the parting to the crown.

3. Evenly distribute Wella Professionals Flowing Form Smoothing Balm, then section off hair and blow dry each section perfectly straight using a large round brush to create a smooth sleek finish. Apply tension with the brush at the roots and loosen the tension as you dry to the ends of the hair.

4. Once this section is dry and smooth, sweep the hair down low over the forehead and secure behind the ear with a pin.

5. Pull some of the hair forward over the ear to give a less polished feel to the look.

6. Pull the hair on both sides towards the back of the head and twist in to a rope – spray with Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray – this adds texture but also protects the hair - then while holding the hair in a tight twisted rope apply heat with a diffuser till the hair is dry.

7. Once the rope of hair is released, the hair will have a natural tousled effect to it. Smooth hair with flatiron as needed and 1-2 sprays of Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Spray from at least one foot above the head for a light mist to add shine.
