· Don’t touch! – Playing or touching your hair can loosen the style out of its shape and create friction causing hair to expand, increasing volume and frizz

· Go long – When temperatures and humidity are at their highest, control your hair by keeping it long and heavy. The trick I use with all my clients is to add in curl to the ends with a roller so hair becomes “anchored” or weighed down

· Accept change – The texture of your hair will fluctuate with the seasons, so the products you use in spring may not be effective for smoothing hair and taming frizz during summer. The Kerastase BAIN OLÉO-RELAX is a perfect summertime beauty essential!

· Wear SPF – Hair, like skin, needs protection from harmful UV exposure. Look for hair care brands that offer sun protection with a minimum of SPF 15. Also similar to your skin, use hair care products formulated with antioxidant vitamins (A, C, E) to prevent against free radical damage. Add a vitamin B complex supplement to your beauty regimen to maintain healthy, shiny hair all year long

· Bounce-back – Use fabric-wrapped elastics; they are gentle on your hair and less likely to cause breakage and frizz. If you only wear non-metal elastics, do not wrap it around your hair more than twice. Before you go to bed, remove any elastic gently, as it can tangle hair during the night

Three Treatments for Breakouts

Sugar Scrub

- I'm a self-confessed body scrub addict. I have tried many different brands and this one make's it to my list of favorites. It's much, much better than the body scrub that I reviewed recently even though that one is good and unique. However, this buffs away the dead skin cells and banishes dryness much better. It's very good sensitive skin, though. It is not abrasive at all, which I think is very unnecessary for a body scrub. Another good thing is that it isn't greasy in the least.

Body Wash - Their coconut based body wash is super moisturizing! It's very foamy, but it doesn't contain harsh detergents that can strip, irritate, or dehydrate the skin. It also doesn't contain artificial fragrances, chemical preservatives, or any other toxins that could pose a threat to your body. If I made bath products, this is exactly how I'd want my bath products to be. It's highly nourishing for the skin and the pure, high quality ingredients makes it even better!

I'm not too keen on most hair oil out there, because I've tried plenty of different brands that were greasy enough to knock up a batch french fries. This is why I was a bit leery about using the Suki Organic Hair Conditioning Oil ($32.95) since it was a brand that I heard of yet didn't have any experience with.

This hair oil is very light. My hair doesn't require much of it since as a little goes very far. I've found out that it works to the best of it's ability when I apply it on before hopping into the shower. It soaks in much better that way. Then, I wait until my shower is about over and start shampooing my hair. That way my hair has had enough time to reap the benefits from this oil.

This hair oil can also be used as a treatment for dry scalp issues such as eczema, dermatitis, and dandruff. It can also be used as a leave-in conditioner or shine serum. The jojoba oil, neem, and rosemary extract are much more effective at treating dry and/or damaged hair than mineral and sunflower oil. The jojoba oil base tones follicles and organic rosemary extract stimulates hair growth and circulation. Organic lavender extract soothes the scalp, while neem extract conditions. Split ends and flyaways are smoothed and irritation is calmed. This hair treatment is vegan and safe for chemically and color-treated hair.

Not all body oils are the same, because I have tried some that were overly greasy and didn't into the skin well. However, that isn't the case at all with this company.

Many consider lavender oil as a cell regenerator that is used in folk remedies to prevent stretch marks, scarring, and to slow down the process of aging. It's not only good at moisturizing the skin, but it is also a great way to banish hair dryness. Aroma therapists use it to treat respiratory problems, stress, depression, nervousness, nervousness, exhaustion, burns, insomnia, rheumatism, various types of skin infections, sun-damaged skin, sprains, and abdominal cramps. It is also effective in treating headaches and migraines.

You'll be tempted to try to lick your face with the PUMPKIN PURIFYING ENZYME PEEL ($58), because it smells like freshly baked pumpkin pie. However, I do not recommend that at all. I do recommend using it on your face, of course! It's gentle yet effective for dull and acne-prone skin. I noticed a difference in my skin after the first week and I love how a little goes a long, long way. No regrets!

The pumpkin is used as an exfoliation accelerator, a powerful antioxidant and a mild retinoic acid substitute, while the pumpkin enzymes will help break down dead skin cells for a soft, smooth finish. The Green Tea Clarifying Cleanser with AHA ($24) is a gentle yet effective cleanser that wondrously treats oily, sluggish skin without stripping the delicate balance of oil and moisture. My face feels so clean and smooth whenever I use this cleanser. I only use it once a day (preferably in the morning) since I've noticed my face gets slightly irritated when I use it morning and night. This is probably because I have very sensitive skin. Other than that, it's a great cleanser to use, especially if you have problematic skin. Natural fruit acids and Willow bark exfoliate and purify as well as Green Tea extract to produce a supple and balanced complexion.

I'm very satisfied with the Supersmile Professional Whitening System ($36 - $75) that I ordered. I use it twice a day as recommended and I've noticed a major difference in my teeth. While the price is a bit steep, I love how easy it is to use this system. It doesn't involve making a mess in the process like most whitening products out there. I also love how it doesn't make my teeth more sensitive like the products similar to this that I have tried out in the past.

The Babor Maxi Definition Eye Liner ($16) is a bit different than any liquid eyeliner I've used in the past. It has an innovative calligraphy tip that was developed in Japan and is the perfect tool for drawing precise and fine lines. The refilling system allows you to replace the cartridge up to five times.

It was a bit of a pain in the butt to use at first because of the cartridge - it took the longest for the color to reach the tip in order for me to apply it on. Admittedly, it's not the best liquid eyeliner I've used since it doesn't provide a color that is bold enough. Plus, it stings a bit if you get the least bit in your eye, which I've never experienced with a liquid eyeliner before.

Dr. Gold's Tips for May Skin Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, we wanted to share with readers regarding Dr. Michael Gold’s expertise so you can both prevent and detect skin cancer. By following these simple guidelines and of course visiting your dermatologist for an annual skin exam, you can keep skin cancer at bay.

Prevent:

· The best defense for preventing skin cancer is to stay out of the sun and to definitely avoid tanning beds. Remember, there is no safe tanning bed.

· Wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ is a must. There are sunscreens that block both UVA and UVB rays, but since the FDA is still figuring out how best to classify them, anything over an SPF 30 and that has UVA and UVB protection is your best defense.

Detect:

· If the mole or spot itches, bleeds, or burns have it examined by a dermatologist.

· If a mole changes size, shape, or color, have it examined by a dermatologist.

· The ABCD rule for melanoma still applies today: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= change of color, and D= diameter greater than the size of a dime. Any of these signs should prompt someone to a board-certified dermatologist who can best determine whether a biopsy or removal of the lesion is indicated.

Tone It Down

We have been seeing a lot of neon bright lipstick shades for the spring season. Don’t toss your favorite bold shade for the summer, simply apply one layer and top it off with a lighter shade of gloss. Tone down your favorite bold color, and make it a perfect fit for summer.

Refine Your Favorites

Everyone loves the dark smoky eye. Instead of doing away with your favorites, tweak them. Use the same technique, but use lighter colors for the summer. Take your favorite shade of brown and cream and substitute them for your usual darker colors. Apply the lighter color to your entire lid, use the darker shade above your crease and blend the two together with a blend brush. Top it off with a little mascara and voila—a more natural look. Add a neutral shade lipstick or gloss to your lips, and you are ready to go.

Hand It Over

Just because you have mastered that amazing natural summer glow, doesn’t mean the same would go for your hands. Remember those shades of blue you purchased a couple seasons ago.
