Review: Nilaa Silk Acne Neem Mask

The Secrets of ancient Indian beauty formulas are unearthed in the hidden hills of Topanga, California. Nilaa Silk was born when two powerful forces came together; the ancient secrets and recipes of East India and the techniques of skin care in modern day Los Angeles. Nilaa Silk is the creation of Sigrid Jensen of Malibu and Felix Stephen of Bangalore, India. The pair synthesized their two worlds to create a natural and unique line in skin care. Stephen with his practical knowledge in Ayurveda and Jensen with a passion for organic skin care, have formulated eight amazing products in their Topanga Canyon home. Their products range from their top selling Roja Spray, a hydrating face and body mist, to all natural healing and firming herbal masks, and most recently a line of lotions that include face, body and eye creme, and a cleaning creme.

Nilaa Silk was born with the hope that it would spread the message of a natural skin care line that truly works in clearing up acne and blemishes, cleansing and moisturizing skin. Nilaa Silk is a naturally effective alternative to harsh chemicals that are offered in most other lines. Nilaa Silk's products provide an organic barrier against pollution and infection causing bacteria. Nilaa Silk's products not only address symptoms but to follow one of the Ayurvedic principles, which is to heal the root cause and restore skin to its natural healthy state.

Stephan says, "I started using my grandmother's formulas on my daughters skin and when my friends and clients saw the results -- well there you are, "Nilaa Silk."

Jensen explains, "I started the line because I wanted other people to be able to heal, clear up and moisturize their skin naturally without all of the harsh drying chemicals that are being used in acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide."

Nilaa Silk uses NO sulfates, parabens, synthetic fragrance, glycols, petrochemicals, synthetic colors, artificial preservatives, silicons, TEA, DEA, or PEGs.

Their acne mask is a scientifically formulated blend that heals existing acne and minimized future breakouts. It rejuvenated skin by infusing it with minerals that strengthen and restore cell membranes. Neem, amla and tulsi work together to cleanse the skin, killing any bacteria, infusing it with rich antioxidants, and teaching the skin cells how to embody moisture so as to stop the overproduction of oil. Neem is a powerful antibacterial, anti fungal, antiviral, and antiseptic, while amla is the richest source of Vitamin C. Once strengthened these cells can absorb and retain moisture, restoring skin its original baby smooth state, free from any blemishes.

Review: This acne mask ($38) works really well. Not to get off the subject, but this didn't really wasn't much of a surprise to me since I have a hair product by Sundari with neem in it and it is one of the best hair products I ever tried! The only thing I don't like about neem is that it smells horrid. Ever been in a horse stable? That is what the smell reminds me of. Within two days of use most acne on my face disappeared. My face gets beet red after removing the mask, but this is it's way of detoxifying my skin. However, the redness goes away with minutes! The smells took a little getting use to, but that didn't really matter, especially how much improvement it did with the blemishes. I tried mixing this with water, but it can also be mixed with Roja Spray ($32) or egg yolk - very interesting, might have to try that! They recommend using this mask 1 - 3 times a week. If you're looking for a more natural treatment, this is one mask that I highly recommend.
