MY THOUGHTS: I was a bit apprehensive about using this foundation due to it having Argan Oil in it since I was afraid it would provoke a break-out. I was even a little more leery since this foundation goes on white, but it miraculously blended with my skin tone. While admitting that I felt consternation in the beginning, I'm glad that I took a chance at trying it out. This is the best foundation I've used in ages!

I love that it doesn't aggravate my skin, and that it gives me an ample amount of coverage. It's recommended that you buy their Argan Blend Concealer ($28) to get full coverage, but I honestly don't need it at the time being since it gives me the coverage that I need right now. However, I probably would have a different take if I were experiencing a breakout. Also, it looks very natural. I can't recommend this foundation enough!

MY THOUGHTS: It had been ages since I had used an illuminizer, but I believe I've found another winner! This is probably the best one I've used so far! I mix a tiny amount of it with the Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation . It gives my skin a natural looking and gorgeous shimmer without being overwhelming. I haven't been the least bit of disappointed.

I look forward to trying out more products from the Josie Maran Cosmetics line in the future. I wouldn't mind trying out the Argan Blemish Clearing Pads ($28), Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter in Sweet Citrus ($35), Argan Oil Moisturizing Stick ($22), and Argan Cream Blush ($22).

Know What You Are Up Against

Think of the camera as a friendly adversary — your best friend or your worst enemy. Know what you are up against. “The camera tends to capture oily skin. Moisturizing with an oil-free moisturizer is a must,” explains Ashley. “The key is to let your moisturizer sink in for a few minutes, prior to makeup application.Make sure to ask your makeup artist what moisturizer they plan to use on your skin the day-of. Do not experiment with a brand new moisturizer you have never tested on your skin. You don’t know how your skin will react and your wedding day is not the day to find out.” Be sure to blend your foundation all around, including your neck and hairline to avoid multi-colored skin in photos. Steer clear of shimmery bronzers and blush, as they do not translate well on camera. If you are having your bridal photos taken indoors,the camera flash tends to accentuate dark areas and blemishes. Be mindful of those areas when shading with foundation and concealer.

Expert Advice

When it comes to your hair for the big day, capturing your hair in all its glory is ideal; however, capturing frizz—not so much. “It is important to communicate your concerns with your makeup artist and hairstylist. Together you can discuss options and create the best fit style for your hair. Our brides concerned with frizz are treated with a customized cocktail of products that de-frizz as the hair is styled. ”

“It is important to prep your hair for the special day,” adds Ashley.“Usually minimal prep time is required. In some cases, we ask that our bride simply wash her hair the night before or we recommend using leave-in conditioner. This is based on the bride’s hair texture.” After dancing the night away, you don’t want to be left to cut the cake with anew unwanted do. “It is important for both brides and professionals to choose the best fit style for hair texture. With professional help, it will be easier to settle on a ‘do that may not be what you first wanted, but its best variation that will last you throughout the whole night.” When blow drying your hair straight, dry your hair downward at a 90 degree angle to avoid frizz.

Touchup Kit

“Every bride should have a kit for a few quick touchups throughout your event,” suggests Ashley. “Though your makeup is applied to last the whole night, you should have an emergency touchup kit handy.” Be sure to include the essentials—lip color, blotting towels, travel flexible hairspray, bobby pins and a mini mirror. Be sure to apply flexible hair spray once during your reception. Don’t overdo it. “Too much shine, depending on the style, may ruin the curls. Apply a light coat of flexible hair spray to add a little shine and eliminate frizz.” Have one of your bridesmaids or wedding planner hang onto the kit and remember to refresh after dinner.“I suggest color on your lips, bringing life to those still photos. Avoid nude colors and avoid just applying lip gloss. In order to make your lip color last, fill in your lips with lip liner prior to lipstick application.”

You’re going for the same overall texture, so apply a thickener to create a wavy, just-got-out-of-bed look. Tie your hair into a low side bun, disregarding neatness: remember, this is a messy style! To create that perfect face frame of hair, pull out a few strands,seemingly haphazardly. Resist the urge to tuck behind the ears and let your hair flow freely. MY THOUGHTS: It had been ages since I had used a curling iron. The reason why is that I thought they were too harsh for the hair. Truthfully, any hair heating tool can be harsh for the hair if not used in moderation, and I've been capable of overdoing it in the past.

I wanted to take a break from my flat iron for a bit and try out something a little different. I couldn't be more happier with my selection, because their BARBAR 1200 Tourmaline Curling Iron 1 1/2" ($135) does a fantastic job at curling my hair. This curling iron is nothing like the ones I have used in the past. The curls actually stay put! Also, it heats up within seconds, and I like that I can adjust the temperature settings without overheating my hair in the process. While it's a bit steep in price, I can't recommend it enough since it's a high quality curling iron!

Simply apply a few drops under the nose outside the nasal passages and inhale. A few drops may also be massaged over the sinus area. For severe congestion, pour several drops into boiling water and inhale the steam.

I've always had problems with my sinuses, especially in the winter. Even a head cold can set me back a few weeks. I've tried just about everything to relieve my sinuses, including the highly recommended Neti Pot, which seemingly made my sinus pressure and congestion worse. The only things that helped out in the past were Hot & Sour Soup and plenty of rest. Thankfully, I'm discovering more and more natural products such as the Elan Sinus Relief , which are ideal for sinus problems. While this product doesn't fully relieve me of my sinus problems, I've found it to be extremely helpful. Thoughts:

Both of our kits came with four different foundations for us to choose from. I was a little hesitant, because they all looked darker than my skin tone, judging by the outside of the bottles. I'm multi-etnic (Cherokee Indian, Caucasian, and African American) and I'm very fair-skinned. However, I was delighted that the Honey Beige was the closest to my skin tone. The Golden Beige worked best for Marsha since she's a shade darker than I am. They have a plethora of shades to select, though. The finishing result is matte, but the Moist & Dewy Moisturizer will add sheen. You can even add a little shimmer with shades such as Champagne, Light Silver, Gold, Silver, Taupe, and more! Again, they have many shades to choose from. I like that you can even mix the shades if want a foundation that is more ideal for your skin tone. The good thing is that this kit is easy to use, and you'll feel like a professional in no time once you've enough practice.

Overall:

I can't recommend this kit enough! It's reasonably priced, easy to use, and provides the perfect amount of coverage. You can use it for Tanning, Body Art, Contouring, Paramedical, Shadowing, Highlighting, Lips, Eyeliner, Hair, Lashes, Brows, and much more! They also have many shades to choose from. And, their customer service is fantastic!

Not only the Velvet Facial Cleansing Milk keeps the skin impurities at bay, but it also deeply moisturizes the skin without infuriating problematic skin in the process, making it extremely ideal for winter. While I don't have dry skin, it suffers the most during the winter time.

I always follow up with the Luminous Rosehip and Orange Day Moisturiser by The Organic Skin Co. ($38), which is one of my top favorite facial moisturizers. However, you can use the Revitalizing Anti-Aging Cream by Zinn Beauty ($29.99). I can't vouch for the effectiveness since I have never used Zinn Beauty's Revitalizing Anti-Aging Cream. Again, I just can't use any type of moisturizing product due to my sensitive skin. I'm pretty that it's a great product, though. You're more than welcome to share your experience in the comment section below if you've used this product before.

The Argan Tree (Argania Spinosa) belongs to the Sapotaceae family. The trees can live from 150-200 years. It produces one of the rarest oils in the world, which is traditionally harvested in Morocco. The Berber women in Morocco made it a well kept beauty secret for the longest time.

100% Moroccan Argan Oil ($29.99) is made of the purest 100% Organic Oil for healthy, nourished skin, hair, and nails. It is a superior moisturizer and is easily absorbed by the skin. Personally, I love using it in my hair since it's ideal for dry and/or damaged hair. I wouldn't go as far as to say that my hair is damaged since I've only had it highlighted once in my lifetime. However, it does have a tendency of getting dry, which encourages breakage. This and Coconut Oil, makes my hair more manageable and shiny. It also discourages hair breakage and in most cases, it treats split ends! A little bit truly goes a long way, though.

Personally, I'm not a fan of all lotions that are out on the market, but the Coconut Scented Lotion ($14.95) surpassed my expectations. I didn't think I would like it at first, because the texture is thick and creamy. I haven't had much luck with thick lotions in the past, but dry and thirsty skin will immediately drink this one up, making it ideal for old man winter. It's everything I want in a lotion. Transformation of the skin is instantaneous, because it pampers the skin to perfection within minutes.

It contains 100% Organic Raw Virgin Coconut Oil. The deeply rich, natural qualities of coconut oil softens your skin since it moisturizes the the outer layer of dry skin cells. It forms a barrier to lock in moisture and keep nasty bacteria out.

The Coconut Oil Body Stick ($9.95) ranks as a top favorite for Basa fans, and I can honestly see why. It targets problematic skin issues - eczema, psoriasis, severely dry and cracked skin (heels, elbows, knuckles, etc.) Fans dub it as the "Miracle Stick" who have tried everything else without much success. Some even call it the "Love Stick", because it can be used as a personal lubricant or massage oil.

Personally, I love to use it in my hair since coconut oil is one of my favorite hair products that I swear by. It's actually one of the very few products that I will use in my hair since I have bad luck with a lot of hair products due to having mixed hair. It's an excellent hair frizz tamer, and a great way to treat and prevent hair breakage. Also, it will help promote hair growth.

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte was hard at work behind the scenes of the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards, creating not one, but three different hairstyles for award-winner and performer Shakira. First Andy created a loose, sexy up-do for her walk down the red carpet, next, he let the singer’s hair down for some glamorous waves for her award wins and then a more rock and roll style as she took center stage with a performance.

1. Wash hair with Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner to maximize volume and shine.
2. Prep wet hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier Style Primer, then blow-dry the hair with a large round brush.

Nails are a big hit this season. From the runway to the red carpet, designers and celebrities alike are touting trendy nails as the hottest must-have beauty accessory of the moment, and it’s not as simple as knowing the right colors anymore. This year, more than ever before, fashionable ladies are sporting complicated nail patterns, painted in seemingly impossible designs– and they’re doing it themselves! If you’re an average working woman, you probably don’t think you have the time to achieve what seem to be complex styles: but you do! Here, Creative Director of Pretty Woman USA, Aija Vilemsonne, fills us in on what’s in this season, and gives us the knowledge to execute these trends at home.

Ombre

“My personal favorite trend at this moment is Ombre. It looks professionally done if you have the patience for it, and all you’ll need are two different shades of polish. I always recommend using a top coat and a base coat, and find that having a makeup sponge handy can help to clean up any mess and tighten up the edges of the colors,” says Aija.

How-To

· First,make sure that your hands are moisturized, clean, and dry. That’s the first step to any successful manicure, and should be a standard practice.

· Apply your base coat and the base color; Aija recommends two coats, depending on the polish used. This will show as the lower color on your nail, closest to the cuticle.

· Use a paper bowl to pour a small amount of the second color, the one that will appear at the tip of your nail, and dab a tiny amount on your makeup sponge. Do this slowly and carefully, never applying too much at a time. This will help to keep the mess manageable.

· This is important: make absolutely certain that your nails are fully dry before applying the second color. Dip the makeup sponge into polish and dab the tips of your nails in quick, short strokes. Make sure to cover the end of your nail.

· The top coat becomes a blending tool with this style. It will act as a re-wetting agent to bleed the two colors together, and keep your color lasting and solid.

Stripes

“Stripes are a trend that is slightly more time consuming, so save it for the weekend or a stress-free night. Even though they take a little longer to apply, the look is complicated and beautiful, and looks very well put together in anysituation. Whether you’re at brunch or out for a night on the town,stripes can work with any look,” Aija explains.

How-To

· Test your colors out on your nails beforehand. Make sure that they look good together. To make your stripes pop, contrasting colors always work best. It helps to cut the brushes on the polishes you are using into more narrow versions of themselves, thus eliminating the need to touch up every few seconds.

· Using the lightest shade, apply a coat of polish to your nail, allowing time for drying.

· Depending on the size of your nail, apply about two stripes of darker colors on either side of the nail, leaving space for the original color’s stripe.

· Apply a second coat of the original, lighter color, but only on its designated area. Touch up the darker color with an extra coat over those particular stripes.

· Allow ample time for drying. In this exercise, the top coat can be your worst enemy if you are not careful to make sure that your nails are completely dry. Once you’re sure, add the top coat for an added sheen and protective layer.

French

Aija says, “No matter what trends come and go, I know that the classic French will always be a sought-after look for nails. I constantly get questions about creating the perfect French manicure at home, and although it is very simple, most people don’t have a solid set of tips for application. The French is a classic because it is endlessly wearable; no matter what occasion, it looks pulled together, sophisticated, and well-placed.”

How-To

· Aija recommends using the Pretty Woman French Nail Guide, available in Rite Aids nationwide, as a quick-fix to creating the materials yourself. However, if you don’t have a kit handy, you can use household items.

· Take a thin strip of either masking tape or the strip from the Nail Guide, and apply it across the top of your nail, just below the edge. Make sure the line is straight.

· Use a light pink or nude color to apply color over the nail, including over the tape. Allow time for drying. Next, remove the tape and apply the white polish above the tape line, covering the tips of your nails.

· Allow time for drying, and then apply another coat of the pink or nude shade on the base of the nail. This will darken the color without taking away from the brightness of the white.

· Apply top coat.

“Nails are all about personality. Take these trends to the next level by using fun colors, and take the time to dedicate to your nails. This season, everyone will be checking them out!” says Aija.

5 Tips to Achieve Shiny Healthy Looking Hair this Fall/Winter Season

Shiny, glossy and vibrant—the three hair attributes on women's wish lists worldwide. How do you achieve it? As temperatures drop, you find yourself with a little more time to maintain and upkeep your appearance. With these tips from Italian born Pirri brothers, you will end up with gorgeous glowing tresses. Try these simple tips at home and watch your hair lifeless hair come to life.

Wash Your Hair Properly

Your simple daily regime could be all wrong. Washing your hair properly keeps you hair healthy and shiny, while keeping your scalp free of dandruff. Are you washing away the dull and bringing in the shine? To properly wash your hair completely soak your locks with lukewarm water, rinsing for about a minute or two. Rub a small amount of shampoo, about the size of a quarter, into your hair and massage your scalp gently. I recommend trying Pirri Elements Mediterraneo Daily Shampoo. This product normalizes the hair, scalp and PH balance while keeping your hair looking healthy and shiny. Completely rinse your hair of all shampoo. Grab a wide-tooth comb and gently comb out any knots prior to applying conditioner. Rub a small amount of conditioner, about the size of a quarter, and leave in hair for about 3-5 minutes. With your wide-tooth comb,brush and rinse your hair. Make sure to rid yourself you hair of any products by rinsing thoroughly. End with a rinse of icy cold water. The cold water will close the pores of your hair so you end up with shinier hair as it dries.

Dry Your Tresses Properly

Now that you have mastered washing your hair properly, it does not end there. With the cold weather, air drying is a big no-no. Since you find yourself grabbing the blow dryer more often, you must blow out your hair properly to achieve the best results. Gently pat you hair dry with a towel after showering, removing any excess water. Brush and detangle your locks by gently brushing with the same wide-tooth comb used in the shower. When blow drying, point the nozzle down from scalp to ends of your hair. The nozzle should steadily follow your brush at a 90 degree angle leaving you with shiny hair. Be sure to thoroughly dry your hair.

Maintain Shine

Over-brushing your tresses will only lead to a greasy mess. And with the wind at its peak this season, try to avoid brushing you hair regularly. Put on a hat to avoid tangling from windy weather. Also, avoid stroking or touching your hair often or at all. This will also make your hair greasy. Avoid blow drying your hair on a daily basis to maintain healthy hair. To protect your hair, apply a heat protection spray when blow drying. And, don’t wash your hair everyday.

Trim It

Don’t be scared of a trim. A regular trip to your hair salon can really transform your hair. So grab your coat and drive to meet your favorite stylist to trim off those split ends that will result in a dry and damaged look. Have some extra time? Ask your stylist to deep condition your hair. You will leave flaunting a shiny and healthy looking do.

Homemade Mask

Has the cold weather kept you cooped up at home? Create a mixture of mayonnaise and avocado oil. For every half a cup of mayo, use 1 teaspoons of avocado oil. Apply for at least a few hours prior to showering, cover with a shower cap. Rinse thoroughly prior to applying shampoo.

The quality of their scrub is phenomenal! They tout the The Rub ($26) as being the best scrub you'll ever use, and I have to agree since the ingredients are completely natural. Sadly, not all scrubs out there are completely natural even if they say that they are. That's why it's important to read the labels!

The grains are very fine, which enables it to spread well without scratching or irritating the skin. I also like that the scrub isn't greasy in the least. It's currently available in three tantalizing scents (almond peppermint, and lemon), but I opted for the lemon since I love citrus scents - a great pick-me up in the morning!

I love having a good lip balm in my beauty arsenal. I hardly wear lipstick, unless I feel like getting really dolled up. Therefore, I couldn't resist the opportunity to try out their Lip Buttah in each flavor (lemon, orange chocolate, almond, and peppermint; $7 each). The texture is so creamy - not waxy, sticky, or drying at all! While each one gives my lips the TLC it craves for, the orange chocolate is my absolute favorite!

Exfoliation ($21.99), Dermatouch M.E.D. Night Recovery ($25.99), and Dermatouch M.E.D Cleanser ($21.99) worked for my troublesome skin. I'm still getting a pimple here and there, but nothing compared to what I was experiencing prior to my review experience. I was breaking out bad on my forehead, and applying foundation on it to conceal it wasn't doing much justice. These products made an embarrassing problem go away quickly. Therefore, each product is well worth the price! I've tried much cheaper products and I honestly never had any luck with the drugstore brands.

·         Blue Suit with a Jacket and Skirt – The “Pan Am Blue” is close to a Royal Blue. Suits can be found at your local thrift store. If you’re handy, you can tailor your jacket to make it fit your ladylike figure and shorten the sleeves. Similarly, the skirt length is acceptable just to your knee.

·          White Collared Shirt -   Spread the collar over the lapel of the suit jacket.

·         White Gloves - Gloves should reach the middle of your arm. Opera length gloves are too long. In a pinch, use shorter gloves, not longer ones.

·         Nylon Hosiery - In the ‘60s, hosiery was not as sheer as today. Emphasize that you’re wearing hosiery by wearing a less-sheer style.

· Short-Heeled Black Pumps - The stewardesses of Pan Am were on their feet all day, so find a sensible, lower heel.

Here's a sampling of some of the products that we received:

KESU by TSI-LA - this is a beautiful fragrance that can be used by a man or woman. I usually don't like warm and woodsy scents, but this one managed to capture my attention. It has notes of warm amber and precious rare woods, which are combined with smokey incense to give it a seductive and mysterious base. It's also layered with narcotic jasmine petals, davana, exotic spices, and fresh lime.

Vapour Beauty's Aura Multi-Use Blush in Spark - I was pleasantly surprised to get a full size product (a $28 value), because I love their products! However, I never tried out their blush until now. I like it much better than the blush that I was using, because this one looks more natural.

Holly Beth's Eye Cream - We have worked with this company in the past, but never reviewed any of their products before. I can't vouch on the effectiveness since I haven't used this eye cream for long, but I really like that it doesn't sting or burn like most eye creams do. It's a bit oily. Therefore, a little bit goes a long way if you want to avoid the oiliness.

Collective Wellbeing Corrective Cleanser in Oatmeal/Raspberry- I never heard of this company prior to this, but this is a really good cleanser! It provides soothing relief for irritable skin. My skin is very sensitive and breaks out easily. I've realized that not cleansers are good for my skin. Therefore, I have to be very careful about what I use on my face. So, it's a relief to find good products like this!

Scrubz Body Scrub in Citrus Burst - I'm shamelessly addicted to using body scrubs. Not all scrubs are the same, though. I have used really good ones, and I have used ones that weren't so good. Luckily, this one is really good! I received a good-sized sample of this product. I'm tempted to buy another once I run out. Not only it pampers my skin to perfection, but it also has a really beautiful fragrance. While the citrus is detectible, it smells more floral, which I really love!

Don’t Cover Up That Natural Glow

“As a mother myself, I know the toll that pregnancy can take on the body, particularly your skin. As a makeup artist, I know that makeup can be a very effective tool for enhancing your skin or covering up some hormonal boo boo. My biggest mantra is,let your natural beauty show for all to see. Don’t cover up that natural glow – unless you are over-glowing!” says Gail.

· If your skin seems its regular self, then your best bet is to use a sheer tinted moisturizer, with sun protection, just to keep your skin supple, while enhancing your skin tones. I especially like mineral makeup during pregnancy,since it’s so good for sensitive skin and during pregnancy – everything is more sensitive.

· If your skin has taken on a new dryness or flakiness then you’ll want to use a gentle creamy cleanser, exfoliate frequently and use a moist liquid foundation that will help keep your glow. A glow highlighter applied to your upper cheekbones will also give you a moist sheen, if you’re dry.

· If your skin has become oily, then it’s time to change to a foundation that is oil-free to help absorb your extra perspiration and moisture. Also,you may be getting extra redness from using products to help dry out the acne.So to counteract the redness, use a foundation, concealer or powder in a slightly more yellow tone than normal.

· Remember;during the day, whether you are using a moisturizer, a sheer tint, a foundation, or a powder – make sure your product offers protection from the sun. You may have issues with Melasma, which is common during pregnancy. Melasma is the appearance of brown patches on your face. But, protecting your skin from the sun will also protect you against developing real hyper-pigmentation,which won’t disappear post pregnancy.

Lather Up Lashes With Vaseline

Being incredibly warm and perspiring a lot is normal during pregnancy. For those pregnant women who seem to be sweating no matter where they are or what they are doing, waterproof products can be a solution to runny makeup. And, it is a quick fix. But, Gail does not recommend staying on waterproof products, as they tend to be more drying to your skin and not especially formulated for sensitive skin.

Gail explains, “All of a pregnant woman’s nutrients are leaving her body in an effort to create this new little body. So, it’s common for pregnant women to lose some of their eyelashes. Take a break from your everyday mascara and look for one that’s super hydrating – or lightly apply a little Vaseline to lashes for a great sheen and added moisture.”

· Smudging under the eyes is one of the biggest tell-tale signs that a woman is overheated, and perhaps should switch to a waterproof liner and mascara. Also,stick to powders rather than creamy facial products underneath the powder, as the look will appear cakey.

· If you feel naked without your concealer, make sure to choose a product that is light and breathable, and be careful to use a light application. Use a concealer brush to dab areas that are reddened or irritated.

· Because everyone’s hormones are different, you will either be dealing with drier or oilier skin. Adjust accordingly; exfoliate regularly in either case,moisturize to combat dryness, and phase oily products out of your regimen if you’re dealing with added oil.

Play Up Your Favorite Feature

“Pregnancy makeup isn’t all about hiding what’s wrong with your skin. It’s also about playing up those naturally beautiful features that are enhanced with pregnancy while still having fun with your makeup routine. Celebrities don’t change their overall look too much, and neither should you. I always play up at least one feature when applying makeup to pregnant women, and you should, too!” says Gail.

· Play up your lips: Go for a bold, fun moisturizing lip gloss with lip liner so that it won’t have to be maintained throughout the day. Right now, red lips are all the rage and will enhance the natural glow that pregnancy provides.

· Perhaps you’re suffering from unsightly Melasma, which commonly appears on the upper lip. Stick with a more neutral gloss or lipstick, and play up your peepers. Go for a bold smoky eye, or if that’s too involved, go with alight gold color and add flecks to the outer corners of your eyes. Keep your eyeliner simple and defined, and it will work for either day or night.

· If your skin is positively glowing, go simple on the lips and eyes. Use a light color on eyes, with limited liner, and use a lip gloss that is close to your own lip shade. Let your skin be the star!

We all know the basic dos and don’ts when it comes to fashion and makeup,but what about when it comes to nails? With the emergence of new and exciting nail art trends, there are a plethora of options available for enhancing your look with the help of one of beauty’s mainstays: a perfect manicure. But what trends work best for what age groups, and why? Nail expert and Creative Director of Pretty Woman USA, Aija Vilemsonne, gives us her take on what trends work for women of different age groups, and what trends are universal.

Black Nails

“In my experience, black nails on older women tend to make them look more dated. As we age, our hands begin to show signs before any other body part. With the appearance of age spots, wrinkles, and veins, black nails draw the eye to and highlight those small imperfections, that we might otherwise not have noticed,” says Aija.

· As an alternative, Aija suggests something a little less dramatic and a bit more subtle. For example, purple can be flattering at any age, as well as fun. Find the right hue that works for your skin tone, and work it throughout the seasons. Another on-trend color right now is blue. Go bright if you’re young, and if you’re older, try an understated hue like navy or a pale blue.

Textured Nails

Aija reveals, “I am a huge proponent of textured nails as a trend that can be worn at any stage in life. You can dress them up or down, and they can transition well from put-together at work to on-trend at night. Whether you’re a young girl experimenting for the first time with an at-home kit, or you’re a mature older woman heading to the salon for the latest in fashion, textures can be skewed for any age.”

· For younger women, textured nails can be an experiment: from glitter to designs,you can feel free to go a little crazy. However, for older women in the (some more conservative than others) workplace, a nail design shouldn’t be too distracting. Go for an animal print or cracked design, and stick with colors that work for your skin tone.

Embellishment

“When it comes to embellishment, be careful. From glitter to airbrushing, certain trends can work well for all ages. However, if applied incorrectly, rhinestones can make even a 25-year-old seem like her nails are too young for her. The key is not to over do it. The older you are, the more understated embellishment should be,”suggests Aija.

· Airbrushed patterns can be very attractive at any age, but stones, glitter, and stick-on objects can be considered “too young” – not to mention, most working women don’t have time for it. If you’re a more mature woman who loves her glitter, try a line of glitter at the tip of the nail, rather than covering your entire nail in the polish.

Neutrals

Aija touts,“Ladies, this is your fail safe; it’s a trend that we can all get behind. Neutrals are always in style, and lucky for us women, this universal look is very easy to wear. For this particular trend, you should be very aware of what colors work for your skin tone, so test them out. Nails should be a fun experience for everyone.”

· Notes on skin tone: Winter skin tones are generally pale, olive, or dark with blue or pink undertones, Spring complexions are pale with bluish or pink undertones,Autumn skin tones have golden undertones, and Summer complexions have golden undertones and peachy skin. The best neutrals for Winter skin tones are closest to the color of your skin, most flattering for Spring complexions are peachy neutrals, Autumn skin tones should go with a gold-tinged beige, and Summer complexions should opt for rose-colored nude.

Aija says, “The most important thing to keep in mind when sporting this season’s nail trends is that your nails should reflect you: the more mature you are in age, the more mature your nail style should be. But above all, nails should always be about expressing your own unique style – and finding what enhances your most flattering features.”

Oat Milk Poultice Recipe

Barbara Close, founder of Naturopathica, provided the ultimate remedy for irritated, dry skin. It's a less messier approach rather than filling the tub with oats.

Take 1/2 cup of oats and place them in a washcloth. Tie the ends of the washcloth with a rubber band and fill the sink with warm (not hot) water. Immerse the washcloth in the water and squeeze several times until the water turns milky. Splash this water onto clean skin, then apply the oat compress to moist skin, moving in small circles over face and body to gently exfoliate.

Most mothers warn their daughters when they attempt to sculpt their own eyebrows.Maybe it’s the whole loss of innocence; the moment when the little girl becomes a pre-pubescent and facial hair becomes an issue. “Leave such an important part of your face to the professionals,” my mother would say,and I believed her, even though I have a knack for tweezing. Gail lets us in on a little secret: “With a few tips, you can feel comfortable attacking your eyebrows, but Mom didn’t get it all wrong. You should consult a professional about the best eyebrow shape for you, let the expert help you achieve that look, and then maintain it.”

Gail’s Tips

· Once you’ve visited your professional, your only task should be to maintain your brows. Gail says that the biggest mistake she sees at the FACES Beautiful salon is when women over-pluck. To measure correctly, hold your finger parallel to the side of your nose. This is where your brow should begin. When you point your finger diagonally away from your nostril, toward the outside edge of your brow, you’ll find the correct end point.

· Pluck hairs in the direction that they grow, invest in a great pair of slanted tweezers, and give yourself lots of light. Go slowly and take breaks, making sure that you are not eliminating too much hair – bold brows are in!

Mom always said, “With makeup, don’t overdo it. You’re beautiful naturally – let that shine through.” While natural looking makeup can be great for certain places, like the workplace or school, sometimes, you just need to go a little crazy and embrace your inner beauty nut. As Gail points out, “This isn’t bad advice, but makeup is about expressing yourself and playing up your best features. Having one key element that you accentuate is not only attractive, but trendy. Take heed of the good in Mom’s advice, and keep most of your makeup natural while choosing a dramatic lip or eye color; this update works with what’s in right now.”

Gail’s Tips

· Gail is a fan of choosing one feature to go bold with, particularly eyebrows, lips,or eyes. With lip color, it’s essential that you know your skin tone.Find a solid red that works for you. If you’re fair skinned, go for an orange-based red, if your skin is medium, berry-red or brown-red works, and if you have dark skin, stick with a red that has a blue base. This season, the red lip is the trend to embrace.

· To get the perfect pout, make sure that your lips are moisturized well prior to application. Use a lip pencil (in the closest color to your lipstick as possible) to create a frame and to prevent your color from bleeding onto the skin.

Match Your Eye Shadow to Your Outfit

I remember the day I went to school wearing lime green eye shadow to match my lime green top, back when I was first experimenting with makeup around age thirteen. My mother always told me to match my eye shadow to my clothes, and that morning I distinctly remember that she told me that I looked great – something tells me that was the mother in her, and not the beauty expert.“I’m all about whatever colors look best on you, and there are no real “rules” when it comes to eye shadow matching. What’s important to note is that even if a color matches your outfit, it will not necessarily look good on your eyes; it’s important to know what colors work best with your skin tone and to be aware of what doesn’t,”says Gail.

Creating the Hair Look for Antonio Marras S/S ‘12

The Look: Oui Madame!

The S/S ’12 Antonio Marras collection featured a bold and eclectic mix of palettes, prints and textures, inspired by the distinct and controversial style of early 20th Century French female artist, photographer and writer, Claude Cahun. This inspiration was developed to create the character of a maid, secretly experimenting with her Madame’s wardrobe; the romantic mix of soft, feminine florals and pretty graphic prints married with neat, uniform-like silhouettes, capturing the subtleties of their different roles.

The hair look created by Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director of Wella Professionals, brought to life both facets of these characters: “I was inspired by a mood board of Claude Cahun that Antonio had created which had pictures of her wearing a hat made from twisted fabric. I wanted to recreate this effect with hair to make a small but striking hair look which was sculpted and intricate, a mix of strict discipline with ephemeral beauty. I liked the idea of using the hair to capture the more stern and confident side of the maid’s character, in contrast with the softness of the Madame’s clothes.” said Eugene.

To create the look, Eugene manipulated the hair into an almost fabric condition, wrapping it neatly around the head to create a smooth vinyl-like sheen, before crowning the head with a sculptural, tiara-style rope twist.

Get the Look:

Step 1: Prepare

The right preparation is absolutely essential for this look in order to achieve the quality of hair needed to create the style. Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, and apply Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to wet hair before blow drying hair straight and smooth using a round brush, without creating volume. For hair in need of an extra moisturizing boost, like that of models at Fashion Week, try using Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment once a week.

Step 2: Sectioning – Part 1

Use a sectioning comb to create a razor sharp side-parting, all the way back to the crown. Take the section of hair from the large side of the parting on the top of the head (leaving the small side below the parting and the back for the head from the crown free) and spray with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Hair Spray at the roots of the hair until the hair is absolutely wet , then brush through creating tension in the hair and secure tightly into a pony tail high on the side of the head using a snag free elastic. Step 3: Sectioning – Part 2

Take the remaining hair from the side of the parting and the back of the head and saturate the roots with hair spray and brush through with a soft bristle brush. Pull the hair toward the high pony tail and create a second pony tail just below the high one, then bind the two pony tails together with snag free elastic. Spray Shimmer Delight spray into the ponytail. Ensure that the hair on the back and side of the head is clean and shiny, and wraps around the head as if wrapping the head in a piece of silk fabric.

Step 4: Rope Twist – Part 1

Divide the ponytail into two equal sections and twist each section individually before wrapping them around each other along the full length to create a rope-like braid, spraying generously as you go. Secure the end tightly with a snag free elastic.

Step 5: Rope Twist – Part 2

Next pull the rope twist over the top of the head, creating a tiara-like sculpture. Pull the end of the twist diagonally down to the nape of the neck, finishing on the opposite side to the top knot of the rope. Using hair pins, pin the rope twist into place. Soak the end of ponytail with Wella Professionals Sculpt Force Flubber Gel and tease the hair to blend perfectly with the hair at the back of the head for a seamless finish.

In the past, I've heard nothing but good news about the WEN Haircare products, but never bought into the hype until I recently had the opportunity to try out one of their products myself! I love the smell of pumpkin, but I've never tried any pumpkin hair products before. I'm hoping that they don't make this particular scent a seasonal product, because it smells too darn good! Sadly, the scent doesn't linger on throughout the day. I like that this cleansing conditioner gives my scalp a nice, tingly feeling. It also makes my hair unbelievably soft, shiny, and manageable. Worth the splurge!

I couldn't imagine myself being without a good liquid eye-liner since it's the staple product to almost every look of mine. Therefore, I have tried many! Sadly, I only have a few favorites since it's hard to find a good one. Luckily, the Clarins Instant Liner ($26) has become one of my new favorites. I generally apply it on in the mornings before taking my son to school. By the time the day is about over, it almost looks just as good as when I first applied it on! The soft, foam applicator enables you create a smooth, uninterrupted line. Also, it dries rather quickly, which I find is a plus!

The Rose & Jasmine Lotion ($10.50) is a light and silky lotion that softens and nourishes the skin, while giving off a beautifully delicate fragrance of rose and jasmine. The key ingredients are Water, Sweet Almond Oil, Stearic Acid, Organic Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Glycerin, Grapefruit Seed Extract, and Natural Essential Oils.
