Votre Vu Review

Votre Vu is a luxe e-beauty house originating with fine French skin and hair care and expanding into handcrafted cosmetics with the 2012 debut of its French Accents premier color line. In addition, Votre Vu offers an award-winning, all-natural beauty beverage, SnapDragon, which is blended in the U.S.

Moreover, Votre Vu aims to reach out to those in need, with the start of its Color it Forward campaign in support of the St. Baldrick's Foundation and the 46 Mommas' campaign to treat and cure pediatric cancer. Specifically, Votre Vu donates $1 from every French Accents product purchased to the cause.

VU-ON ROUGE ($20.30; Available in Ma Cherry, Bouquet Rose, and French Tulip) functions as a lipstick and blush. I received the Ma Cherry, which I'd describe as a low key, yet rich shade of mauve. I normally don't really like mauve, so I didn't think it would look flattering on me, but it surpassed my expectations once it was applied on my lips and cheeks. Not only it imparts a wonderful color, but it's very moisturizing. However, it wears off quickly, so I've started blotting it on gently to extend the wearability.

EIFFEL POWER Mascara ($16.80; Available in Charbon) was inspired by no other than by Paris´ iconic Iron Lady. It gives my minuscule lashes the power that they need by fortifying and lengthening them with good-for-you ingredients - beeswax, carnauba, and sunflower. The XXL applicator is good for those lashes that are not always easy to reach. Best of all, no smudging!

I normally stick with liquid eyeliner, but the LE JOLI CRAYON ($16.10; Available in Charbon and Aubergine) is a soft liner that isn't smudging in the least. It doesn't lose its wearability as the day goes on, thanks to candelilla wax. Also, it comes with a pencil sharpener to ensure that your eyeliner stays in tip-top shape!

Joey New York's Young Coconut Water Complex Day Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo Review and Giveaway

Prize: Three winners will receive Joey New York's Young Coconut Water Complex Day Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo (a $44 value).

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Coconut water became such a health craze because it is nutrient-packed, ultra-hydrating, and delicious. But do you know the amazing benefits it also has on your skin?

Among a plethora of other health benefits, young green coconut water has been shown to help control oily/combination skin, rejuvenate aging skin by combating wrinkles, fine lines and wrinkles and provide intense hydration for dry, parched skin.

That’s why Joey Chancis reformulated her cult-classic brand, Joey New York Beauty, with coconut water as the new wonder ingredient for her line. Joey New York Beauty offers you access to the many skincare benefits of coconut water in the following forms:

❏ Bye Bye Blackheads ($28)
❏ Young Coconut Water Complex Day Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo ($44)
❏ Keep It Up ($42)
❏ Correct-A-Line ($36)
❏ PEEL Peel-Off Masque ($32)
❏ Line Up ($36)

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd actually need eye cream. Sure, I had used it from time to time, but I never actually needed it during those times. However, I started noticing puffiness and dark circles around my eyes a few months ago. It's easily understandable since I have a very energetic, yet lovable six year old, a two month old in tow, and a job that keeps me majorly busy.

I've been trying practically everything in the book to reduce the appearance of the dark circles and puffiness - drinking plenty of water, getting an adequate amount of sleep, which is hard at times with a 3 month old; changing my diet, and using eye cream from various brands. I thought they would magically go away by doing all of this, but I can honestly say that nothing is going to work overnight. It just takes time and a lot of patience.

I've been using the Young Coconut Water Complex Day Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo for over a month now. This duo has a few strategies up its sleeves: targeting the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, firming the eye area, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles while soothing the eye area with a cooling sensation. I'm impressed how the puffiness has gone away, and the duo has lightened my circles to a point that they're not noticeable as they were before. It did take some time, though. Not one week or just a few weeks like most eye creams claim to do.

I've realized that one can't solely depend on one strategy to take care of dark circles and puffiness. Eye cream, even if it's the best on the market, isn't going to work if you're not doing something else, such as getting a decent amount of sleep, amping up your water intake, and limiting the amount of junk food and beverages (i.e. juice and soda) that are part of your daily diet.

You can purchase Joey New York's Young Coconut Water Complex Day Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo at SkinStore, SpaLook, Beauty.com, and DermStore.

Beyoncé Midnight Heat Review

Beyoncé Midnight Heat is the latest addition in the "Heat" collection, which also includes Heat Ultimate Elixir, Heat Rush, and Pulse. This is my first time ever trying out any of her fragrances, but it is said that this one is more sensual and sophisticated than her previous fragrances. It draws elements from her original Heat fragrance with additional notes, such as starfruit, Armenian plum, and dragonfruit.

Personally, this isn't a fragrance that I'd wear everyday since it's a bit too strong for my liken. I tone it down a notch by not spraying it on my clothes or skin. I just spritz some in the air and walk through it. The bottle itself is simply gorgeous. It's currently sitting prettily on my dresser.

You can buy Beyonce Midnight Heat for $59 at Macy's. Also, you'll receive a black tote with your purchase.

Natural Surface Scrubbing Mat: Solevation

Professional pedicures can be a deeply relaxing and pampering way to treat the feet, but they can also be costly if done on a regular basis. Not everyone can afford the luxury of getting a pedicure every few weeks, and some simply are not keen on the idea of someone else touching their feet. Therefore, there are many alternatives that are marketed to keep your feet from looking drab and unkempt.

This is where Solevation comes into play. It eliminates the need of costly pedicures, gadgets, files, creams, and brushes. There is also no need to take extra time to make it a daily requirement. All you need to do is place this mat in the shower, and shuffle your feet on it while you're showering. Not only it makes feet attractive by repairing damaged, cracked, and/or rough feet; it also deeply cleanses the soles. I usually follow up with a non-petroleum jelly, such as the one by Waxelene or Live Clean Baby, which helps maintain the softness.

I've been using the PedEgg for years to ensure that my feet look healthy and attractive. While the PedEgg is very affordable, I believe that the Solevation is relatively cheap at just $28.50 (it will usually cost this much for one trip to the salon or spa to get one pedicure).

Selma Valentine Review

Selma Valentine offers spa products that are made of the highest quality of premium ingredients. The best part about this product line is that it is 100% eco-friendly!

I received the Pink Sugar Reed Diffuser ($20; Also Available in Sun Bathe and Tropical Rain), Decadent Dessert Sugar Scrub ($15; Also Available in Summer Breeze and Jamrock), Sweet Sensations Whipped Body Butter ($15; Also Available in Happy Hour and Fresh Bloom), and the Cucumber Melon Candle ($15; Also Available in Citrus and Teakwood, Litsea and Basil, Water Blossom and Ivy, and Asian Spice).

Pink Sugar Reed Diffuser - I placed this in my daughter's nursery to keep it sweet smelling and fresh. It has a light and charmingly sweet smell (thanks to essential oils of orange, eucalyptus, patchouli, and ylang ylang) that isn't overpowering in the least. It's very reminiscent of Aquolina Pink Sugar, which is one of my favorite scents of all time! It is well priced at $20, because the scent will last for about 3 months. Each reed diffuser comes with eight 12" reeds.

Cucumber Melon Candle - I love burning candles, because it creates a warm and inviting atmosphere in the home. This candle emitted a strong and succulent scent (juicy green melon with a hint of orange zest and musk) when I first opened it, but sadly, it doesn't give off much fragrance when lit. It is still a pretty candle, nonetheless.

Sweet Sensations Whipped Body Butter - I absolutely love this body butter! Not all "whipped" body butters are the same, but this one was whipped with perfection. The consistency is light, so it deeply absorbs into the skin without making it feel sticky or oily, which is something I hate when it comes to bath and body products. I practically use it everyday, especially after getting out of the shower and had exfoliated. It makes my skin ultra smooth and supple.

It's relatively cheap, making it a must-have purchase for the cold weather that is lurking around the corner. Cold weather honestly doesn't affect my skin that much, but it's known to be harsh for some.

Decadent Dessert Sugar Scrub - This body scrub would be perfect for most skin types, because it isn't harsh in the least, yet it does a job well done by exfoliating and moisturizing the skin to ultimate perfection.

HydraFacial Giveaway and Get Glowing This Fall with Expert Skincare Tips

Prize: One winner will receive a HydraFacial skincare kit of their choice - Normal/Dry Skin, Anti-Aging, or Oily Skin.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Beauty mavens, take note: your skincare routine should be shifting to transition from summer to fall, in more ways than one. With the arrival of the fall weather come a slew of complications for the skin, including changing temperatures, wind, and, of course, dry air. With skin becoming more sensitive, it is more likely to become irritated. Below, Mechele Wilson, licensed esthetician and skincare educator for the HydraFacial(TM), provides five ways to get your skin in glowing condition for the new season.

1. Exfoliate. Exfoliation is extremely important in this changing of seasons because it removes the dead, flaking, and dehydrated skin cells from summer. By breaking down this barrier, it allows your skin to absorb the nutrients from products you use on your face and helps your skin to stay hydrated.

2. Hydrate. With the cooler weather and harsher wind, your skin is more likely to become dehydrated since there is a depletion of water in its protective layers. Moisturizing is crucial for all skin types, even oily skin. A moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid and antioxidants is best to keep your skin hydrated during these cooler months.

3. Nurture. What you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body when it comes to your skin’s health. Make sure to drink a lot of fluids (especially water) to keep your skin hydrated. Also, eat foods with Omega-3’s, Vitamin C, and antioxidants to keep your skin healthy from the inside out.

4. Protect. Even though the sun is not as harsh and hot, damaging UV rays are still present; wear sunscreen. Sunburns from UVB rays are still possible, and UVA rays, which cause sun damage, have the same intensity all year long.

5. Rejuvenate. Many suggest a deep cleaning facial is important at the beginning of a season. It will cover all of your needs: exfoliating dead skin, extracting impurities, and delivering vital antioxidants and nutrients to protect and hydrate skin. This leaves the skin extremely soft and supple.

The giveaway will conclude on October 5th.

Purely Pampering Products at Perfectly Posh

Prize: Two winners will receive a Soothing Stick or Sugar Scrub, courtesy of Perfectly Posh.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Perfectly Posh offers spa grade products that are made of the best ingredients on the planet (no parabens, no paraffins, SLS, gluten, soy, lanolin, or phthalates). From luxurious shea and cocoa butters, to indulgent and nourishing oils, vitamins, and more; they have over one hundred unique, pampering products to choose from.

I opted for two products from their line, the Rubby Scrubby ($16) from the Play Footsie Collection and the Detox Body Mud Stripper ($22). I have combination skin, so I'm sometimes leery about what I apply on my face, because I break out easily. It is recommended that you leave the Stripper on oily skin for 15 minutes, and 2 minutes for overly dry skin. My skin is in the mid-range, sometimes dry and a bit oily at other times. It is very unpredictable! I usually keep this on my face for about 10 minutes, because I have noticed that it zaps my skin of any moisture if I keep it on longer than the 10 minute mark. It is that absorbent! My skin feels very soft and touchable if I don't go past that. It also smells good, thanks to the light and natural vanilla essential oil. I don't use it everyday since I don't want it to conflict with other products that I'm using, but I do use it at least once or twice a week to keep my skin up to par.

The Rubby Scrubby will keep your feet in tip-top shape with the sparkling pink peppermint exfoliator, which is in a mild, yet moisturizing shea butter soap base. The best time to use it is when showering. It sloughs off rough and dead skin on your feet. It will make tired, worn out feet, look and feel like they have been to the spa and back. This foot exfoliator is that pampering!

America Ferrera - Toronto Film Festival

Celebrity make up artist, Nick Barose, created the look of America Ferrera for the premiere of “End of Watch” at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival this evening.

“For America Ferrera’s “End of Watch” premiere in Toronto, I wanted to create a sultry, sophisticated look that was grownup, yet fresh, so I used Votre Vu products to focus on her eyes while keeping the lips and cheeks simple and sheer.

I prepped America’s face with Votre Vu’s Best Regards Serum Hydratant Pour Le Visage, massaging it into the skin gently and letting it absorb for a few minutes. Then, I used Love Me Deux – Moisture Tint & Concealer Champagne and Provence to even her skin tone: I applied the tinted moisturizer with a dampened sponge for sheer, all-over coverage followed by the Concealer and Concealer Brush for spot treatment and targeted coverage in the under eye area. Using a tinted moisturizer gave America’s skin a warmer, more sun-kissed look.

For a slight flush, I asked America to smile and blended the Vu-On Rouge Color Accent for Lips and Face in Ma Cherry into the apples of her cheeks in a circular motion with a sponge. Though it looks heavily pigmented in the tube, the Vu-On Rouge goes on very subtly for just a hint of color. I followed with the Beaute en Bronze Bronzer Duo in Monaco, dusting the highlighter over the Vu-On Rouge for luminosity and applying the bronzer underneath her cheekbones for contour.

I finished her skin with a dusting of the Belle Poudre HD Sheer Face Finish in Medium, concentrating on the T-zone, to set the makeup. I left a slight sheen on her cheeks so her skin would be glowy, not matte.

Then, I used two Votre Vu products to create a simple, healthy lip: the Vu-On Rouge Color Accent for Lips and Face in Ma Cherry added a subtle stain, and a top layer of the Champagne Kisses Enhancing Lip Balm provided just the right amount of luster. With a dramatic eye especially, too-matte lips can seem harsh, while too much gloss can look overdone.

For America’s eyes, which were the focal point of this look, it was important to be sultry without being made-up and to maintain a spontaneous, easy attitude. While a more deliberately smoky eye can make eyes look rounder, this simple application lengthened and lifted her eyes.

I lined her eyes twice with Le Joli Crayon Soft Eyeliner in Charbon: first to roughly define the line and then to intensify the color. I started with a thick line along America’s upper lash line and created wings in the outer corners, smudging the entire line slightly. An easy method for achieving a winged, cat-eye look is to draw the wing first and then line the eye starting from the inner corner of the eye and connect the two. Starting with the wing allows you to control the length and angle so you can avoid a line that is two low, which looks droopy. Then, I created a thinner line along half of her lower lash line, again slightly smudging.

For the second layer of liner, I sharpened Le Joli well and focused on dotting the liner into the lash line. Keeping close to the lash line is a very simple way to add intensity to the eyes, and pencils are more user-friendly than liquid liners and allow for more versatility because you can create a softer line. America loved the way the liner pencil made her eyes pop!

After curling, I applied two coats of Eiffel Power Mascara in Charbon to America’s upper lashes. I held the wand horizontally for the first coat and brushed from root to tip. When the first coat was dry, I went back over her lashes holding the wand vertically to add volume, concentrating on the outer corners to accentuate the cat-eye. To finish the look, I applied one coat of Eiffel Power to her lower lashes, and she was ready to go!”

Runway Recap: Rebecca Minkoff - Hair by TRESemmé

Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2013

Hair by TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu

Overall Look: The look was beachy waves with polished ends

Hair Inspiration: The 80’s feel of the collection called for a relaxed, chic style. Hair had a matte texture and sleek ends to create a style that was casual, yet glamorous.

Use the flat iron to straighten ends and give the beachy texture a polished finish.

Spray lightly with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo for a matte look.

Create a middle part with a comb and finish with a dime size amount of TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème to fingertips, raking through the hair from roots to ends.
